Probably. Only has to play 1 year of junior to be AHL eligible (turns 20 next may).

He's AHL eligible now technically. He could be sent to AHL since he was not drafted from CHL. Only players drafted from CHL are required to be 20 for AHL. Kings have used this in the past with a few Europeans (Tukonen, Voynov and likely will next year with Kempe) but it can also be used with players drafted out of Junior A or NCAA.

Note this would only apply if he signs with Los Angeles or Manchester obviously.

6th round. 13 postseason goals. THIRTEEN!!

50 goals in 81 games. Based on my understanding of the rule, he can go to the AHL next year (turns 20 in october). Have to wait and see what they decide to do.

Gotta wonder what led to the regression last year (13-14) though?

EDIT: That question was answered in the thread from when he was drafted.

Hey guys, as someone who was interested in Boston drafting Adrian Kempe last season (which obviously didn't happen as Boston drafted David Pastrnak) I am just wondering how his season went, just had a quick look at the numbers, and yes number's don't tell the whole story, but does anyone know what contributed to his lack of scoring? Injuries etc? Thanks

Lack of scoring where? While he was in Sweden with MODO or now that he's over here in the U.S. with the Monarchs?

He was a 17 year old playing with men in a low scoring league on the worst team in the league and fellow prospect Nylander left...yet he still scored more than last year and by all accounts has been great in acclimating to Manchester. Developing as expected.

If the poster was talking about his time in Sweden then another thing to also consider is that Kempe put up those numbers while being relegated to the 3rd and 4th line as well.

For comparison as well.

Adrian Kempe (drafted 29th 2014)
Age - Year - Team - League - GP - G - A - PTS
17 - 2013-14 - MODOJ20 - SuperElit - 20 - 3 - 16 - 19
17 - 2013-14 - MODO - SHL - 45 - 5 - 6 - 11
18 - 2014-15 - MODO - SHL - 50 - 5 - 12 - 17

Marcus Johansson (drafted 24th 2009)
Age - Year - Team - League - GP - G - A - PTS
17 - 2007-08 - FarjestadJ18 - J18ALK - 12 - 6 - 12 - 18
17 - 2007-08 - FarjestadJ18 - J18Elit - 12 - 6 - 14 - 20
17 - 2007-08 - Skare BK - SWEDiv1 - 19 - 2 - 10 - 12
18 - 2008-09 - FarjestadJ18 - J18ALK - 2 - 2 - 0 - 2
18 - 2008-09 - Skare BK - SWEDiv1 - 5 - 5 - 5 - 10
18 - 2008-09 - Farjestad - SHL - 42 - 5 - 5 - 10
19 - 2009-10 - Farjestad - SHL - 42 - 10 - 10 - 20

SuperElit = Best U20 league in Sweden.
J18Elit = Best U18 league in Sweden (but lots of 16/17 play in U20 or higher)
J18ALK = 2nd Best U18 league in Sweden
SWEDiv1 = Sweden's 3rd division in Men's hockey. You'll find though that the SHL and ALK (SHL obviously stronger but not nearly to NHL/AHL levels), the Division 1 is quite a bit weaker.

I'm pretty ok with Kempe's development. It's really hard to score points at the SHL level as a teenager.

Adrian Kempe was not selected by the Kings for his scoring touch or high skill.

The Kings picked him cause he has a lot of tools, is a superb skater, with size.

Kempe is a perfect mold of clay, to mold.

Paul Bissonnette will obviously take advantage of that malleability since he taught Sidney Crosby everything that made him the player that he is today.

Has Dean openly articulated this?

Was in the Mayors year end review. Several Kings development staff told the Mayor, the odds are slim that Nikolay Prokhorkin will be pursued for a contract at all.

Nikolay Prokhorkin has more to worry about anyway, his game tanked last season. He has to get back to playing an acceptable level, at the KHL

That may be true but the mayor isn't the most reliable source. I will wait to see what is what come rookie camp. What he said is pretty much a safe thing to say based on Porkins last season. Time will tell.

Prokhorkin has indeed some major issues and regressed horribly last year.

Yet to say that shipped has sailed based on mayors year end review is kinda meh...

When it comes to prospects, the Mayor is extremely reliable.

I don't even like his reporting that much either. But I even can't deny he has been spot on with the Kings prospects.

The biggest thing to remember with Prohorkin is that so long as the Russian federation refuses to sign a transfer agreement the Kings retain his rights. So if he develops to a real player 2-5 years from now the Kings will still retain rights. That might be awesome.

This is true.

But I wouldn't count on the KHL developing him. The KHL is sort of wonky when it comes to proper development. Three years time will be the mark we can look, see how he progressed.

Nikolay Prokhorkin will be 24/25 years of age by then.

It's up and down. It has it's success stories (Malkin, Tarasenko, Kuznetsov, etc), it has it's busts(Filatov, Tikhonov, etc) and it has it's KHL stars that refuse to cross the pond (Mozyakin, Zaripov). Hard to say with Prokhorkin.

A saving grace or light at the end of the tunnel.

Nikolay Prokhorkin has not signed a contract for 2015-16 yet to my knowledge.

He could sign an AHL contract couldn't he ?, and play for Ontario if he really wants to play in NA.

That option is open for him I believe.

Doubt he will cross the pond this year. I mean he could sign an AHL contract but he won't. He'll wait for an NHL deal. Which I doubt the Kings will offer this year. This doesn't mean NHL guarenteed contract but an NHL contract that might get sent down.

Let's just say he won't be in NA next year. But the Kings retain his rights so who knows what will happen moving forward.
