Thank god now I can -- LIVE -- in peace!

Its going to take years for a new coach to catch up the teams that have built in the right directions after the lockout, but atleast we will head in the right direction.
 
Compare us to LA, not Chicago.

You just get so much for free when you get two top notch top 2 picks. Make no misstake, its no coincidence that Duncan Keith took that huge step on a team with Towes and Kane on it, and that Kris Letang has developed into a top 5-10 D in this league on a team with Sid and Crosby on it. That is just two examples.

There is no reason for why can't do what LA have done though.

Two teams with D's who moves the puck so well though. Torts wouldn't let his D's do anything else than rifle the puck the length of the ice. What a joke.
 
Torts is the one who convinced Sather to go after Richards. Sather isn't absolved from the Richards contract but Sather had never given out a long term with the dummy years at the end. Larry Brooks was on XM a couple of years ago discussing how Sather wouldn't have given Richards that contract without Torts as coach.
 
Huge changes shouldn't be made.

Richards must be bought out. Hockey trades need to happen. Flip a D for a scoring W. Promote some young players within the organization ready to make an impact (Fasth, Lindberg, Hrivik, Miller). Maybe sign a vet guy.
 
It's going to be interesting to see what direction the team goes in. Sather's comments about getting a new coach before the draft tells me that they're going to settle on a style of play that fits the team as-is, find a coach who fits in with that style, and then let the draft be the day we start chipping away at what's been built thus far.

Since when is brassard a first line center? I love him, but he's barely a top six center. I'd want him on the third line

OK, swap them around, by 1a and 1b I meant that whichever line is riding hotter you run with them. Do you not think that he showed in the short time he was here that he is a 2nd line center? Dude has mega talent that was stifled by his unhappiness in Columbus. He said as much in one of the interviews on Blueshirts United.
 
Did anyone else watch the Staal interview on Blueshirtsunited? Man the difference in his pupil sizes is crazy, is it a cause of the medicine or is that normal? I was shocked by it.

And this is why I think some Rangers fans severely overrate Marc Staal. He is not better than PK Subban, a Norris nominee this season. Staal is a good shutdown player, but doesn't really play that physical and doesn't use his talents enough to get involved offensively (although, much improved this shortened season for him). He is great at winning board battles, has an excellent reach with his stick and plays so fluidly. I think he is closer to 25-30 than top 20, still a great player to have.

I'm not saying there is one way, but tanking to draft a top centerman or defenseman is the most efficient way to add them. The Rangers have not had an elite 1C or elite 1D. These players are rarely up for trade.

I'm just curious to know what makes Staal that much better than Faulk.

If they were the same age and were paid the same amount, I'd still much rather have Faulk. RH PMD, elite vision, elite skating ability, good stickwork, confident puck handling skills. Isn't that the Rangers most pressing need? A RH PMD?
 
this hagelin and brassard talk on 3rd lines is crazy. how many teams have 40-50 pt players over 82 games on a 3rd line?

A healthy Marc Staal is a top shutdown defenseman in this league. Excellent skater, long reach, physical, smart player. And his offensive abilities are better than average. Faulk as a smaller player relies more on skating and has yet to consistently
Shut down the best forwards in the league like Marc has. Also, and this is a small thing, for such a
Good skater Faulk was bad in the WHCs.

I see Brassard very similar to Rich Peverley, 3rd line player on the Bruins. Last season, Peverley was on pace for 60 points over an 82 GP season. He was the Bruins 3rd line center behind Krejci and Bergeron. Ideally, I'd like to see Brassard in that role. But Richards ruined that idea. 2Cs on bad teams, 3Cs on contending teams IMO.

Hagelin, I think he is a good complimentary player and top 6 forward on most NHL teams with his puck pursuit talents. Dude is relentless on the forecheck at times.

Faulk played tougher minutes than Staal in the regular season the past 2 years. Anyways, I will simply agree to disagree. I believe I am much higher on Faulk than others most likely.

This team would be ridiculously deep if those two were on the 3rd line
 
LA has Kopitar-Brown and Richards-Carter as the anchors of their first two lines.

I don't care who the coach is. The Rangers don't have that type of talent. They just don't.

Stepan-Nash is quite a great combo.

Stepan has had a comparable season to Kopitar thus far, at least IMO.. Outproduced him in the regular season and only had two less points in 1 less game in the playoffs (including more goals). Nash also had more points than Brown has right now in the playoffs.

Kopitar is an incredible player, but I think we take how good Stepan really is for granted. There's still a lot of room to improve, too, Stepan is still only 23 years old.

We definitely don't have the Richards-Carter duo that they have, though, nor do we have a Drew Doughty.

But, that's the beauty of the NHL. There is no set way to build a team. I love the pieces this team has in place. I think they're pretty close.
