Congrats to Anthony D. The first step to get drafted. The second to sign a contract. He's had a really good year and kudos to him for grabbing the ball and running with it.

Ugh. How's his vision? Can he create something out of nothing or does he need someone to set him up like Gaborik?

Like Gaborik when? The bulk of his career, Gaborik created something out of nothing as a matter of course.

Anyway, happy to see Duclair signed. Will always be restrained on enthusiasm, of course, but always good to see Rangers prospects playing well. It's a learned habit. Chris Thomas scored 54 in 66 in the season after his draft. Grachev 40 in 60. Dawes 47 in 56. Obviously all of these are different players in different situations. Still, cautious optimism.

Gaborik is a useless poacher. He can't create like Nash can. That's what this team needs more of.

@WJC: New York Rangers prospect Pavel Buchnevich scored two goals for Russia, including an empty-net goal with 28 seconds left in a win over USA to advance to semi-finals against Sweden.

The key word there... *is*.. Even if I disagree with your assessment today, which I do, Gaborik was NOT that player in Minnesota.

The question here is this: if we're talking about Duclair in relation to Gaborik, does he have the kind of speed that, at the NHL level, will give defenders fits? Gaborik's did, but so does Hagelin's. And there again, so did Sjostrom's. Speed can create all sorts of things. It's what you do with the speed that matters. Gaborik scored goals. Hagelin forechecks. All Sjostrom could do was kill penalties. Duclair really remains to be seen right now.

Duclair compared himself to Evander Kane, for all you jokers. :D

EKane is a legit power forward. Granted one that has had continued issues in WPG, and a player I would love to have on the Rangers. Duclair needs to add more muscle, and play a man's game before calling himself EKane.

That said, I'd love for him to aspire to be a Kane like player. 12-15 lbs of muscle on him, with his skating ability and shot, he's a dynamic player.

Instinct, effort, hockey sense. I think Duclair might be somewhere in the middle of all that. He does skate like EKane, very smooth effortless strides. What excites me other than his skating ability and goal scoring ability is that he is only going to get stronger.

Meaning he's going to get more explosive as a skater, harder shot, be tougher to contain. There are things that may not carry over to the NHL, but athletically this guy is gifted.

First 3 steps are outstanding, and he attacks the net all the time. This means that he skates into the slot with the puck with great acceleration or receives the puck that way, and that's when he snipes it.

He's a blur sometimes. Whereas Hagelin hounds and chases down pucks, this guy cuts and slashes with the puck to the net.

Love this kid, love this news. I see more Gaborik in his game than Kane. But one thing I've noticed is he is hard on the puck defensively too. Might be new to his game this season and to be honest I haven't watched him in awhile but earlier this season it stood out.

The Gaborik comparison is a compliment to Duclair's elusiveness and speed. He doesn't have his shot or ability to find openings to slip the puck in. Duclair however can do things at full speed that a lot of guys can't and that's a dimension Gaborik didn't have much of. Whether Tony D's talents can translate to the next level and eventually the NHL is the big test.

So we're talking about another Hagelin, not a Gaborik. Which is fine. Give us another asset in the org.

Duclair is more talented than Hagelin, in my opinion. Has good but not great puck control, and has a good shot. Just not Gaborik level wrist shot. One thing him and Hagelin to have in common is their puck retrieval skills.

He has progressed defensively (and pretty much everywhere else as well), but he always had a better defensive game than credited for. Could be like that for all his career even if he develops fine, he doesn't play «vanilla» defence, so hockey conservatives may not see it. Mostly, takeaways and getting out of the zone in other ways than by dumping it along the boards.

On Roy: I don't think there was any problem, Duclair started rising in the last weeks/months of last season. Maybe not right after the near-suspension, but not that much later. Also of note, a player with an A got traded away, and it was given to Duclair, at least for the time being.

Duclair seems like a Matt Duchene type

Hopefully his offensive games translates to the NHL level

I do think there's a better chance of that with Duc than with say Dawes, mainly because he's such a great skater

We're starting to see why Duclair was a consensus top 10 pick until this time last year. He's proven a lot of people (including me) wrong. Good for him.

I've seen comparisons from Gaborik to Kane. You probably can't find two more polar opposite players within the league.

Which leads me to believe nobody knows what the hell they're talking about. Who's actually watching this kid play?

The Kane comparison is some what justified, actually. The only thing that really separates Duc and Kane are Kane's physicality, and his slightly better hockey sense. They're both really quick and can beat defenders wide, both have underrated defensive games (not great, passable though), they both love to shoot, both do the dirty work to battle for loose pucks, they both drive to the net hard.

I actually don't like the Gaborik comparison because Duclair is much more willing to fight for pucks and get his nose dirty, Gaborik stands and watches 9/10 times.

Yea Gaborik was a total product of Crushed Christensen

Yeah and we all know how Tortorella liked to keep lines together. He needs to play with players that make room. He scores his goals around the net for the most part. Sometimes he would have the occcasional snipe but not often enough.

I feel pretty confident saying Duclair will make the Rangers next year. One, they have enough players to sign who will cost money so they need somebody cheap to make the team up front. Two, going back to juniors would be a total waste for him and he can't play in the AHL. Three, AV's system is a perfect fit for him. It's about speed and forechecking. Four, a line of Hagelin-Miller-Duclair just makes so much sense. If they keep Pouliot which I hope they do, move him to the 4th line but still use him on the PP because Callahan is awful there. I don't care what his PP stats are.

Yikes top-10. Why did he slide so much? I know he had subpar season but was there more to it?
