Duclair received 1st star of the QMJHL for the week, scoring 2 goals and 4 helpers, in the span of 2 games.

Won't happen. He's not big enough for the NHL yet and doesn't play the kind of game that would allow him to succeed right away. Not only won't he make it next year, but he'll likely play at least one season in the AHL after that. I think 2016-17 is the first season when he'll have a realistic shot at cracking the NHL.

Would the Rangers be able to have him play in Hartford next season? Putting up his numbers is impressive, but would he have much more to learn playing in the Q again next season?

I do not agree with the bolded. 5' 11", 184 lbs and has a good frame for his size. He still has room to grow, too.

He's not American and didn't play in an American league, I'm almost sure he can't play in the A next year.
That's fine though, let him stay in the Q and crush the competition.
Totally agree that he isn't big enough now, but that is the really is the key factor.
He is what you call a zone entry player, and at the speeds he can skate, Tony D at 195-200 is a Marleau esque skater. Not suggesting he'll be the scorer, but just one of those effortless full stride speed demons. He can handle the puck at those speeds, this kid will get a look.
Pretty sure that's why he said if he matures physically. I hate seeing kids stay in juniors too long. I feel like they get bored with the competition if he lights it up again, I'd love to see what he can do in Hartford. If he gains about 10 pounds he'll be fine at the nhl level
The kid went from 157lbs 2 yrs ago to 177lbs last June to 184 now! I think he's reaching for that 195-200lbs you're talking about.
IMO, he'll get at 190lbs and will be able to play next season, he will need a full camp and about 10-15 NHL games for him to get comfortable with the team's system.
If he comes back to Qc next season, not a bad scenario either. Qc has 50% to host the Memorial Cup! He'll lead the team towards that goal.
In his case, it will be a win-win situation and better for NYR in the long run

I'm confirming he cannot play in the A next season. He still has 1 more year before being eligible to play in the A.
This kid should be able to jump from juniors to NHL either next season or the season after. He is that good and is a fast learner. You just have to read the posts and comments from last summer's rookie tournament. He started slow but started to rise towards the end of the tournament. He was probably the youngest player in the entire tournament.

It's not a matter of being American or playing in an American league. It's an agreement between the NHL and the CHL that players drafted out of the CHL have to play either in the NHL or the CHL until they are 20 (or until they have played 4 years, whichever comes first). Those are the only players for which the rule applies.
Duclair played in the CHL during his draft year, so he must play in either the NHL or CHL next year.

Not needed. Because he is playing in Juniors his contract slides so it wasn't to open up a contract. He won't be playing in the NHL this year, that's for sure. However, he gets his bonus money now.

Anyway, happy for Dukes. He has definitely been awesome this year. Too bad he didn't get onto a very deep Canada squad though. Would have been fun to watch.

No, he isn't eligible because he was drafted out of the CHL and hasn't reached 4 years played or 20 years of age. He must play in either the CHL or the NHL next year.
