2013 New Jersey Devils (Team/Player Discussion)-Offseason FA and trade talk Part XII

if Marty went down last year and we had Schneider to step in, thats a few more wins right there imo.

plus, we replaced Kovalchuk with scoring depth, instead of relying heavily on one player. now, if Ryder goes down, we have more depth scoring than last year when we turned to the likes of Sullivan and Poni to step up.

honestly every day that passes I feel better about the Devils having scoring depth over one superstar

Dont get me wrong here. I feel good about the teams roster.

I just feel like the players on the team though are very high risk at failing due to low morale. At times last year it seemed like they thought they couldnt score. I think if you dont lose Parise that they feel more confident as a team and dont have a 7% shooting percentage. And with that in mind I fear the effects of losing their franchise player in addition to massive roster turn over.

Who knows, maybe because of the large turnover the new players wont be effected. But still, its something that is in the back of my head.

we do seem to be assembling a merc squad of UFAs. but thats what happens when the UFA period ravages your team and you have no forward prospects ready this coming season.

Im trying to stay as positive as possible. Devils hockey always puts team first and if the new faces buy into that, I feel we can have a good year, even if it takes some time to get going. this years camp will be critical to that

As of right now, we don't. The depth is complete disaster. Now, that obviously can/will change assuming Brunner and MAYBE Raymond sign. All we've done so far is trade Kovy and Clarkson for Ryder, Clowe, and Olesz. That ain't gonna work. They'll be ok in the long run but its murky right now.

of course its not going to work, noone expected our superstar player to walk out on us. its not like theres a superstar UFA out there waiting to be signed. im taking about bringing in the best players possible to fill that void, and not relying on one superstar to do alot of the scoring anymore while Sully and Poni pad out the roster

Most are indifferent. I don't not want him but I won't be crushed if we don't get him. Hes really not that good ask Van fans. I really want brunner though.
