Great if we were paying him Peter Sykora money.

Money isn't really an issue right now...all our contracts are relatively short except for Zajac and Clowe and we just eliminated 11+ million dollars in payroll.

The devils are more nibble and maneuverable than they have been since the 2005 lockout right now.

Wouldn't you feel more comfortable giving Brunner 2 years at 4 mill annually as opposed to 4/5 years at 3.25 +?

I hope Brunner's agent asks for 5 years at 3.5 million. Who has the most leverage given the situation over the last 4 days?

Considering we're the first team to be publicly pursuing him, I'd say it's a relatively equal playing field, all things considered.

A humbled Brunner will be looking for a multi-year deal, looking to set himself up for his real payday somewhere in the future. A scrambling (yet poised, Lou doesn't scramble lol) Lou will get a top-6 forward. I envision these negotiations as just finding a middle ground to appease both sides.

If we sign Brunner, it won't be for 4 years. And he won't be getting the $3.5M he originally wanted. Book it.

1-2 years is fine. Anything more than that is insanity.

Two points:
(1) Assuming that we will always be a cap ceiling type team is fraught with perhaps too much optimism
(2) We have important players coming up for contract renewal in the next 2 seasons (Henrique who should be resolved shortly, Larsson, Greene, Fayne, Schneider)

very, very rough calculation, but with Brunner our roster average age is just over 29

Adding Brunner and Raymond certainly solves our "slow" team issue

No room for Raymond I think. there's already no room for Tedenby and/or Gionta and/or Josefson. I think he'd be a good fit here, but I'm not sure how he would fit. I wouldn't further insurance against Brunner, Josefson, Tedenby, and Loktionov though.
