The best part was kicking this guy's ass in the Finals...

Signing Prospal to a bonus/incentive contract would allow LA to let the kids develop more.

Brown Kopitar Williams
Prospal Richards Carter
King Stoll Frattin
Clifford Fraser Lewis
Nolan

DD RR
VV WM
MG JS
JM KE

Trading Martinez for a pick or prospect and allows the kid line of
Pearson Vey Toffoli to dominate the AHL.

If Pearson, Zykov or another surprises in camp we could always move a player like King or Fraser.

Toffoli doesn't need to dominate the AHL, he is NHL ready and the Kings are better off with him in the lineup. If we sign Propsal, we would go with a 3rd line of something like Frattin-Stoll-Toffoli

No forward would want to play for LA's system. If it was a long term contract with money I could see it. But like 2-3 year deals for LA's dump and chase system can make their value drop. Its understandable why the Kings aren't an attractive team for Forward UFA's.
So a team who likely has a chance to contend for the Cup for the foreseeable future isn't a good option for a free agent? Come on, do you realize that Fillpula and freakin David Clarkson makes almost the same money Richie and Carts make? Do you even want to compare them and their value? I'm more than happy Lombardi didn't move a finger in this cluster**** of stupid signings. The fact Ryan went to Ottawa, and he's going to be an UFA in 2 years, made my day. In 2015 he'll be headed back for Southern California, but to play for the right team. Book it.

This season that's right. But it's been like this for a long time, not many forwards want to sign with the kings, the good and young ones especially. Gagne signed but he was already old.
Yeah, for a long time not many forwards wanted to sign with the Kings, and that's because we were a joke that either couldn't get in the playoffs or win a playoff series. The harsh reality is that we were a joke. Looking back on those times, we have to be able to admit that to ourselves. Those times are gone so it doesn't hurt to say it.

We've never had cap room to sign anyone since we stopped being one.

Maybe they didn't sign here because DL wasn't going to hand out crazy contracts like some of the eastern teams. Also, there was very little cap space.

Totally agree. These guys are handing out stupid contracts like the pre-lockout years. But I'm not even talking about the Kings specifically; all things being equal, most of these guys just generally go East.

(not complaining on our behalf because there were very few FAs I was even interested in for us unless you count Scuderi)

I also wonder how much our system has to play in to it. Yes, we're a damn good team but our system doesn't really allow for a hell of a lot of offense and requires strict and disciplined play with lots of defense. I wonder if that turns anyone off. If you're a forward looking for a one year deal to prove yourself, would you rather do it in the likes of Philly, where they banned the word defense, or in LA, where you can win but your point totals will be lower? Maybe they take the offense so that can parlay them a bigger deal. Just a theory. But if anyone wouldn't sign with us for that reason, we wouldn't want them anyway.

With everyone throwing money around this offseason like a wild man it seems like we'd be set up to score next offseason. Right? What's our cap look like for next season if the cap goes up and Brownie re-signs for 5 or so?

I'm eager to see how Matt Frattin turns out. I have a good feeling about him and think he might be a steal for us. I also hope we get a good look at Pearson and Vey at some point next year. Its always exciting to follow our young prospects and see how they do. I like how DL has kept us a young team that is still able to win in the playoffs. I even hope Holloway makes it out to Kings training camp. The more competition the better. Still wouldn't mind a Prospal or Morrow, just as an insurance policy to let our young guys develop if they're not ready. I could even see Toffoli starting off in the AHL next year and being called up at some point.

If you give Brown a raise up to 5 million, Greene a raise of about a million, we'd be somewhere near 64-65 million. Cap is probably going up to 70. Then we'd need to bring in a backup goalie and possibly re-sign Frattin. And replace Mitchell.

We're locked in with our cap basically.

If you read before what i said before that I didn't talk about this years FA. I meant in general.

True but that would mean LA would likely have to trade a fwd. I'd think it would be King or maybe Fraser and move Lewis to C the 4th line

anyone that thought Dean was going to bring in anyone for over $3M this summer was hitting the liquor cabinet to often or partaking in the medicinal weed. there was no money to do so. more importantly the team is at a crossroad right now when it comes to several forward prospects. at some point these kids have to be given a chance to play. throwing money at some UFA doesn't help the kid(s) develop further and only handcuffs Dean later when it comes to the likes of Brownie and Greener. there's no point in arguing over something that just wasn't going to happen.

Well I'm thinking Brown will get the same cap hit as Richards at $5.75M. That's a raise of around $2.6M on the cap hit. Mitchell if healthy would be likely resigned with possibly an incentive/bonus type contract. Frattin would need a new contract too as would Greene. My guess is the 23 man roster would come in at around $65M. Would give LA around $5-7M of cap space assuming cap goes up to $70-72M

Potential LW UFA would be Marleau, Vanek, Heatley, Cammalleri and Michalek

Marleau could be a possibility. Didn't Lombardi draft him in SJ? I feel like he's needed a change of scenery for years now...

Not really. It's not like the cap is only going to go up for the Kings so every team is going to have spending money if the cap limits increase appreciably.

You're forgetting that an offer was extended to Rob Scuderi so I guess everybody, including Dean Lombardi, was hitting the liquor cabinet and medicinal weed.

Guess its better than Dean slammin' coke and snorting Oxy's. Freakin' Hollywood, look what it does to ya. I think players romanticize the East Coast too much, much like I do with the Sopranos or WWII. Its a shame we couldn't get Scuds back, but his mind was made up. Can I get my avatar back now plz?

Vancouver doesn't get many players other than guys that were born in BC. San Jose has never been a big free agent destination. Anaheim, other than giving Fedorov a ton of money many years ago, and happening to have the younger brother of a great defenseman, or a good friend of a Fin, doesn't do much in July. Edmonton doesn't get many guys choosing to go there. Calgary has had to give everyone a NTC or NMC. Colorado, not much there, unless they overpay. Phoenix, they've had more failure than success in free agency, and Ribeiro is already 33.

The Kings aren't an attractive place because LA isn't in a good geographical location in the NHL universe. There's a reason the Kings haven't lost out on players to teams around them on a map. It's been Boston, or NY, or even Chicago when they were this close to their first Cup.

I completely agree.

I saw Frattin play a ton in UND and he has a great skill set. I think he will be a really really good player for us too.

I like Pearsons game allot as well. I think he should be at worst an average 2nd line LW for us. A clear step up over King (who is a good utility bottom 6er but really isn't suited to play on our top 6 and never has been). Pearson needs to work on his physical game and he has been as well as his awareness at and above the dots. He seems to get a bit confused as to who and where his responsibilities are in that aspect of our transition game. It isn't anything crucial but he does need to get it right to become his best.

I have written a ton about Vey and Toffoli and both of them will be well better than average NHLers.

We are deep deep everywhere now as far as our forwards are concerned and I am happy to see the next group come up. I hope a few get their cup o tea this coming season and then a real shot at making the team the following year.

AA is going to be a really good 3rd/4rth line gritty character player who has some decent hands too.

Adding Frattin and picking up Z when added to Pearson Frattin and the development of a few of the other kids have us set up and deep all over the place.

I've heard a ton about the kids, just curious is there a good chance that we will have one come into our roster permanently at the start? Frattin would be very good but just thinking about it, having a king stoll Toffoli line is eh. Wonder if Pearson Stoll Toffoli would be a third line because that'd be a very solid line imo.

Do we really need king honestly? Can't we roll a fourth with Andy Nolan Clifford. Fast and strong 4th.

What happened to Lewis?
