2013 Free Agency & Offseason Thread II

No he wasn't. A lot of media sources had mentioned the Kings along with the Sharks and Capitals as having had submitted offers to Mitchell. In fact, I remember Barry saying that Mitchell wouldn't sign with the Kings because the Kings always fail in bidding wars. He wrote that himself. You can go ahead and believe what you want to believe. I'm sure if he wrote that the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus were real you'd buy that too.

i recall a tweet saying mitchell was offered 3 years and everyone else is only offering two. This was at least a week before he signed and was before any recognized outlet i saw. It is possible i dont have the media source you have all i know he had it before tsn sportnet and hnic to me this is main stream media. I can belive what i read This comes down to memorys and i know what i read. You can say what u want you have that right I also can say what i want. I never once said i belive all his rumours. I was and still am i guess challenging his ban. He is still listed under bloggers at hockey buzz so therefore still should have rights of any hockey buzz wrighters

any news on Brunner?

Given the rumored price range for Brunner, which is said to be $3M to $3.5M, I think it is safe to say that there is no interest in him.

The Wings had talked many times with Brunner, but his asking price of $3 million to $3.5 million per season for two-to-three years was more than the Wings were willing to give a one-dimensional player with one NHL season to his credit.

If the Kings add a LW to the roster, it'll probably be either Penner or Morrow, and if they fail to get either one, then they're going to look to promote someone internally.

I think it was said repeatedly by many on here that we shouldn't expect the Kings to be active this summer. Their main task at hand was to lock up Voynov to a long-term extension and to move Bernier, which they were successful in doing so.

I totally agree kings aren't going to do much in this off season. I also think Tanner Pearson will get some ice time at 2lw this year.

Barry is a total joke, Eklund has more credibility than him.

Can we make the same kind of offer Chiarelli made, to Jagr? Low cap, easy bonuses?

I wonder if Vinny Prospal still has some gas in the tank

Being a big fan of Bob since his rookie year with the Flyers, I watched a lot of BJ's hocky last year and based on what I saw, esp down the final drive when the team needed points and were playing under pressure, he played very well.

I think at this stage of his career, and not being signed yet, he'd opt to do a good team for less $$ rather then the opposite.

Many people here want Prospal. I mean ****...just look at him. His hair and ridiculous tan would make him fit in so well here. Plus he's not Penner so in all actuality, he'd be an upgrade.

Yeah I'd take Prospal on the cheap. That way it'd take pressure off Pearson, Frattin, Clifford, whoever else would step in on that 2nd line. He'd be a better version of Gagne...

Awesome. So in an attempt to stop problems by posting Barry blogs, they have opened and allowed an avenue for everyone to start problems in the form of disrespect, and ridicule him. Ive spent the last two pages where every other post was a ***** fest and irrelevant to hockey. Thanks.

Would prying Marcus Johansson out of Washington be an upgrade on just redundant? He has mostly played center I believe, but is a converted LW if I recall correctly. 22 year old RFA, that appears to have some serious talent. Could acquire before he maxes out his potential.

Thoughts?

I would honest rather let one of the kids play their way into the 2nd LW role at this point, or have Toffoli or Carter make the transition. Signing a guy like Prospal or Jagr would be pretty pointless as far as the direction of the team goes.

I would like to say sorry for my part. If i had emailed my complient rather then post it in here I wouldnt have created drama in the forum. So for that i'm sorry.

I'm not too keen on ****ing the development of young prospects like Toffoli or Pearson, throwing them to the wolves early in their careers. Prospal would give some added insurance to those that aren't ready to step into that 2nd line LW spot. Takes some pressure off. After all, if they can't produce with Carter and Richards with them, that's probably gonna hurt their confidence. No need to rush our rookies with the team we have right now. We can afford to let them simmer a bit, much like how the Red Wings have done with their guys. That has been working well for awhile now...

Even getting a cup doesn't improve prospects of UFAs signing in LA.

Yup.

Look at how many FA signed in the East vs. the West. It's insane. Pretty much only the players who have no choice will end up over here.

I've always liked Prospal and think he has some left in the tank--he'd be a nice placeholder compared to some of the other junk out there.

This word is the key word. Vinny is the perfect placeholder. We don't need Johansen. We're not going to get someone young unless its Bud because we don't have to give up assets. Right now, we don't really have a ton of cap room. We can't commit to a young player that would be due a big raise until we see what happens with Brown and how far the cap truly does go up. Prospal would provide some much needed skill on the 2nd line that Penner doesn't have.

I like Matt, he is what he is. A guy who hears things and like Eklund reports what he hears. We don't know if they were fragments, jokes or what but he gives us what we like to hear, rumors. I for one don't mind hearing his stuff. Keep em coming db/CBGB.

No forward would want to play for LA's system. If it was a long term contract with money I could see it. But like 2-3 year deals for LA's dump and chase system can make their value drop. Its understandable why the Kings aren't an attractive team for Forward UFA's.

Maybe they didn't sign here because DL wasn't going to hand out crazy contracts like some of the eastern teams. Also, there was very little cap space.

This season that's right. But it's been like this for a long time, not many forwards want to sign with the kings, the good and young ones especially. Gagne signed but he was already old.
