2013 Free Agency & Offseason Thread II

Dustin Brown would have no problem getting Six Million as an UFA.

The Rumor was that when Brown's name was floated about being traded, every single GM in the league was calling Dean Lombardi.

Let's not forget though that the end result of keeping it together was that the Kings made it to the Conference Finals, which is actually farther than a lot of the other defending Stanley Cup Champions have gotten to in the season after they win it all.

Well they never actually played a game with the same team did they? Mitchell was gone the whole year and the rest was never really all healthy all at the same time... And yet still made it to the conference finals.

I think that was mostly the result of having superman in net.

It wasn't the same team, Mitchell/Greene gone the whole year.

A-Mart was injured twice, and had a career worst year.

Good points. So much of next season is on Willies knee, Greenes back, and now Stolls brain. That doesn't even count all the other issues that can pop up.

Think about this though, lots of positives about this team.

Despite the injuries, King/Nolan sophomore slumps. The fourth line playing not well. Stoll being a disaster (which some people think,Not me) Koptiar/Brown being Casper the ghost; Drew having his worst playoff series of his career.

The Kings still went to the WCF and played as best they could...

That is pretty good for all the stuff that went wrong this year.

The Kings have options up front if Stoll can't play. They could roll with

Kopitar
Carter
Richards
Fraser/Lewis/Vey

down the middle.

Almost everyone in the organization seems to think Vey is knocking on the door right now.

When it comes to Mitchell and Greene, if both of them went down at the same time it would be a disaster. If one of them goes down Ellerby or Schultz are cheap insurance policies that Dean can use until he finds a suitable replacement.

With the salary cap it's not like you can have a fully capable Mitchell/Greene replacement waiting in the wings.

Correct me if I am wrong, but Tyler Toffoli will still be considered a Rookie next year correct ?

He did not play enough games (25?). So Tyler can receive Calder votes...

I wonder how many times Tyler Bozak has been called Tie your Ballsack

So is Vey projected to be more like a Trevor Lewis, or something more than that?

I think Vey has higher upside than Lewis, at least as a scorer. In their two first full years in Manchester Lewis had 79 points and Vey 110, essentially playing the same number of games. Vey outscored Lewis in junior by a much wider margin as well. I'm sure Lewis is a better skater and stronger along the boards but hopefully Vey's skill set translates to the NHL.

Brown will never be paid 6mm by the kings.

Wish we could take the money we gave Scultz and Regehr, and use it to pay Scuderi .25 more per year than Pitt offered. Would like to see us now make a move for a youngish stay at home guy. Offer Martinez or Muzzin in exchange. Shame Vlasic plays for a rival because he would be perfect

I doubt it would have mattered. He left because of family and term, not salary.

$3,700,000 and an extra 250,000 wouldn't have kept him. He wanted to go back East. Nothing short of MASSIVE overpayment would keep him in LA. You can't control things like that.

I'll be EXTREMELY disappointed if he tops out as Lewis.

You'll be extremely disappointed if a fourth rounder tops out as a third liner in the NHL?

I understand he has shown promise, but I think you're expecting too much, if you step back and look at it.

Nope. I don't give a **** if he was a fourth rounder. The prospect he has become now is quite good. For his game to translate at the NHL level as Trevor Lewis would be disappointing.

I'd say more offensive upside than Trevor Lewis. Wouldn't at all be surprised to see Vey project as a 30-50 point 2nd-3rd line center some day as a...nearly perfect development arch. He has really good vision. If you stick him with a goal scorer he could put up a ton of apples. 30 to 50 is a broad range I know, but it all depends on his minutes and role on the team obviously.

Damien Brunner pushing for $3-3.5 million per season, 2-3 year deal. Price tag too high for Red Wings.

And that's why he's not signed yet...

Todays' list of FA's left...

I still think that signing Schultz and having too many LH D, might mean DL is up to something.

I wonder where Grabovski will end up and for how much.

From AP this morning:

Jaromir Jagr's agent says three teams are ''very interested'' in his 41-year-old client.
I wonder where he'll end up.

And one of the Buffalo writers said the reason that Vanek wasn't traded (and he said that a lot of teams kicked the tires ) is because Buffalo won't eat part of his salary. Well he better think on that because he won't get anything come next summer.

Blues sign Derek Roy. So they can still lose to us in the playoffs! :sarcasm:
