Jim Schoenfeld, the Hartford GM, is an employee of the Rangers organization. He's an assistant GM for the team. So any personnel moves that Hartford makes are at the behest of the Rangers.

He's 28 and has played in 20 NHL games the past five years. It's possible they're looking at him for an NHL contract, but it seems doubtful.

They could have scouted him in Sweden and signed him to an NHL deal if they wanted him. He's not really an NHL caliber player though.

Klassen should have been retained. He's a good AHL player.

Jean sucks and doesn't even play. Waste of a contract spot. Aliu hustled but also sucks.

Dupont was a disappointment. Not nearly the player he used to be, which is weird because he's not even old.

I've said it so many times: there's no reason to keep Missiaen instead of Stajcer.

I hope they keep DovGM and LeNeveu... Enough of Missiaen, Stajcer, Malcolm.. sheeeesh!

I'd like to see more of Malcolm. He was fairly well-regarded coming out of college, and has played very well in the ECHL. The other two can go rot in Greenville though.

They of course have a say and don't get your hopes up.

But he is a veteran with some NHL games in his career. The Wolf pack do need some actual vets who have some experience in the NHL. Their is no purpose of having AHL vets who have never played in the NHL. If your a prospect would you take advice from a player with a little bit of NHL experience or an AHL vet who never played a game in the NHL? I can see Hendrick signed as a leader like Segal was a few years ago.

i dont get why the Rangers couldnt give him an AHL contract? were other teams lining up for this ECHL prospect :help: but yet they let the talented russian Sergey Tolchinsky sign with the Canes who leads his junior team Sault Ste Marie Greyhounds in OHL in goals and points as an 18 year old.. great job scouting talent.

I do admit that I was pretty annoyed when the Rangers gave up on Potter so abruptly. He's a solid 6/7 kind of guy and would have been a better plug on our defense than some of the guys we've seen (particularly Bickel).

I agree with you that an AHL contract would have sufficed for Jean, but the Rangers didn't sign Tolchinsky because they didn't have a contact spot. It was reported that they simply wanted to wait until Traverse City for further evaluation. Also last time I checked Tolchinsky was passed over by every team seven times over and the Rangers were the only other team looking to give him a contract after the most recent draft.

The Rangers did have a contract spot. If memory serves, we were at 48 contracts when Tolchinsky signed with Carolina.

Anyway, keep in mind that while Jean sucks, he has still accomplished more as a pro than Tolchinsky, who may never amount to anything. People were upset about JAM. What's he up to? What's Brendan Shinimin doing? How is our own Michael St. Croix looking?

Jean was a lights out player in his first development camp with the Rangers and for about 3 weeks into his first AHL season--and then his game just fell off of a cliff. The Rangers signed him because they thought they were getting something. Not sure what happened to Jean but it's a real Jekyll/Hyde thing. The Rangers have had guys at their development camps like Keith Kinkaid, Matt Read, Andrej Sustr and a couple years ago Dane Fox (just recently signed by the Canucks as a free agent). I'd prefer to wonder why not sign these guys than a tiny player like Tolchinsky.

Well it took me about 10 minutes to find him (apparently he dropped the Audy...), but he has 94 points in 110 AHL games. Still barely 23.

That said, I have no issue with the way the Rangers handled the situation.

Right, he's still a decent prospect. But he's just that--a prospect. Two years after he spurns us, and he hasn't done anything and may never do anything. And yet, people were soooo bummmmed that we couldn't get him to sign.

"Missing out" on Tolchinsky most likely ends up as something no one remembers five years from now. I think most people get that...it's just a few that get all worked up.
