I've notice Dov scratched before when not starting. I'm guessing it has something to do with the AHL rules for dressing veterans. A team can only dress a certain number of veterans (determined by number of professional games played) per game, although they can have more on the roster. The Pack have a lot of veterans. Now that I think about it, that could be the reason for the Mashinter/Beach deal. Mashinter is two years older than Beach and has played more pro seasons. Maybe Mash reached the games played cutoff and the Pack needed to dump a vet so they could fit an experienced goalie onto the roster.

The veteran rule doesn't apply to goalies

"Of the 18 skaters (not counting two goaltenders) that teams may dress for a game, at least 13 must be qualified as "development players." Of those 13, 12 must have played in 260 or fewer professional games (including AHL, NHL and European elite leagues), and one must have played in 320 or fewer professional games. All calculations for development status are based on regular-season totals as of the start of the season."

Thx pelts for clarifying!

I honestly have my doubts about his viability even in the ECHL. He's useless. I hope he gains confidence and picks it up in the ECHL, but has been awful this year.

So do I... I wish him all the best for the future, but he should stop embaressing himself in the AHL. I suspect he'll end up in some B or C league in Europe next year or after that.

JT Miller with 2 assists tonight. Lead 3-2 in the 3rd on a goal by Yogan.

Fast, Lindberg, Bourque, Hensick and Powe also with points. Johnson had 3 assists. Miller is really too good for the AHL already, just needs to learn when to use his skill and when to pass the puck, and he'll be a very, very good NHLer. This will happen at some point in 2014.

Can you be more specific as what you see him as? He reminds me of Dubinsky, maybe a bit flashier.

I think Miller has superior stickhandling ability to Dubi. He's also significantly better than Dubi was at the same age. Dubi's points per game at the same age were about half of Miller's right now in Hartford. He also tended to take stupid penalties, which Miller doesn't do.

Dubi is a career 45 point per season player, I think Miller can do more than that, while being physically stronger as well.

I see Miller as a 40-something player as early as next season. Nobody will take this seriously, but I think he'll be a 0.5 ppg player in 2014-15.

Yea. Every time Miller is at the ahl he really stands out. Clearly the best player for the pack and usually the best player in the game.

Somehow a lot of his game doesn't translate to the nhl yet and I'm not sure why. But he hasent really shown his playmaking side in the nhl.

he reminds me of dubi playing with his head up all the time looking to make a play.

He doesn't remind me at all of Dubinsky other than being a physical American forward.

Skill set is completely different IMO.

Dubinsky was closer to a jagr in his puck posession and strength with the puck than he is to miller. Miller is more of a stepan than anything.

This is all the more difficult because the Pack are a terrible team, so all the opposing team attention should be on him.

JT miller is in beast mode today. Asset. A fight moves the puck a will. Kid is going to be special.. dirty hockey game lots of fights

Pack are now officially the worst team in the AHL (Utica has the same number of points with fewer games played). But they're tough!
