Agreed. I wish the ETA and SCTA would do series play. The round robin format makes it feel like the playoffs are just an extension of the regular season
It sucks for the players 2. Especially the way they seed them. The last couple years some very good teams have been eliminated essentially from one botched game. I hope they go back to series play.

Lev Katzin signs a tender with USHL Green Bay. I'm not the highest on Katzin but have heard this rumoured for a while. Wonder if we see William Moore sign one next, just to keep his options open. I've also heard that is a real possibility

For someone who has watched Katzin play a lot this year, he has consistently been the Marlies best player. While undersized, he elevates for every big game and almost never takes a shift off. Judging by the 64-42-78-120 line, he is also likely the teams leading scorer, which possibly means the highest scoring player in the GTHL.

Moore is rumoured to be going NTDP, but if he is selected 1st overall, that will be tough to turn down. He did apply for ES last year, so you have to think the OHL is an option.

I have also watched the Marlies a lot this year and I definitely do not agree with that. He would not be the 1st or 2nd Marlies player I would draft. Too consistently loses puck battles against guys who aren't that big or are far less skilled than him. He could hit a growth spurt and those problems are alleviated. Still obviously a very good player, we're talking about 1st rounders, but William Moore is a far, far better all around player in my opinion.

Seems to have put up quite a bit of production against the best teams in the age group for losing so many puck battles.

I probably am one of the biggest Katzin fans around, but yea, I'm taking Moore. There was a brief period of time after the Silver Stick where I leaned Katzin, but ever since then, Moore has been amazing. However, I'd comfortably take Katzin as the 2nd player from the Marlies.

I'd say Katzin is more exciting, but Moore elevates everyone around him, which is incredibly valuable.

Agreed. Moore's game also transitions extremely well to the OHL with his exceptional puck possession and hockey IQ.

Again, don't want it to come across like I'm shitting on Katzin, he's still a 1st rounder. But there's a reason one will go 2nd or 3rd overall and one will go mid-late 1st

Don't disagree with any of this. The interesting case will be Schaefer and how (not if) he impacts the top forwards at the top of the draft. The earlier idea of Niagara drafting Schaefer with their first pick and then still grabbing an impact forward with #5 should be taken seriously.

Has anyone’s opinion of Roobroek or any of the other team Ontario kids changed (for better or worse) since watching them play at the Canada Games? And by that I mean either draft position, or ability to play at the next level.

Not at all - he was very good at the CWG. Whenever he was on the ice, he would just do something that would help his team out one way or another.

Now I do think that Schaefer and Moore got closer to Roobroeck in the tournament but it‘s not due to Roobroeck’s game, it’s because those two had just as impressive outings at the tournament.

If i’m the GM with the first pick it’s Schaefer everyday of the week

Any commitment concerns with potential top picks? I've seen Roobroeck unlikely to go to Niagara but have there been rumblings of any of the other top guys wanting to go somewhere specific?

Moore has NCAA options and has been rumoured he might sign a USHL tender. Katzin just signed one

Statistics on their own are a dangerous and misleading measuring stick. I’m more curious with players who can generate against the better teams. Teams in the GNML are not ranked as highly among U16 in Ontario as the other leagues, so I can’t judge any of these players since I haven’t seen them play head to head VS top teams. Does anyone have any insight?

Chitaroni is the best prospect out of the GNML this season. I haven't seen enough of the other leagues to know where he would rank.
