Sudbury was at silver stick and a few other tournaments. Maybe someone saw them play who can comment?

They have a 2008 goalie on their roster that was quite impressive at the Peterborough tournament.

You often see players move up a level, not that often for a goalie.

2008 is a stronger draft year for the North.

Teams in the GNML are not ranked as highly among U16 in Ontario as the other leagues, so I can’t judge any of these players since I haven’t seen them play head to head VS top teams. Does anyone have any insight?
Incredibly tough to judge as only 2 of the 8 team GNML loop are U16. The rest are all U18.

Went to Vaughan vs Miss Rebels last night (Miss Rebels scored with 1:30 left to win 3-2 and win the series, giving them an OHL Cup birth) and '08 call-up Zachary Nyman was the best player on the ice. He's definitely someone to watch for next year's draft

Maybe yes, maybe no. Sudbury is pretty weak. North Bay doesn't run a AAA team at that age this season. Not sure if there are any AA players from the North that would warrant a look from some of the smaller centers.

Soo has a good U15 AAA group. I have watched some of their games. They have some pretty dynamic forwards - I like James Elliott, Nik Rossetto, Danny MacDonald, Aiden Atkinson, and Hudson Brock Chitaroni (2009) might be their best player. On defense I like Luca Blonda, and in net Cameron Ingram looks pretty good.

But I digress, this is the 2007 thread. My apologies.

EDIT: Whoops, it's Brock. Hudson is his 2007 born brother.

Sudbury will still have a player or 2 drafted. Goaltending is strong. Actually have current Wolves forward Alex Pharands sister as one of their goalies.

There's also 2008 forward Logan Rivard playing U18 AAA for New Liskard. Has 22 points in 26 games (leads his team).

Though as you mentioned this is 2007, so I digress as well.

A few names not mentioned yet:

2007 Goaltender Nathan Maguire (U18AAA Soo Jr Greyhounds) has excellent numbers this season posting a 1.60 goals against average and 4 shutouts in 28 games. Albeit he is playing on the top team in the league.

2007 Forward Bryden Shank (North Bay U16 Trappers) is having a pretty good year on a bad team, 25 points in 24 games.

2007 defenseman Jackson Culin (North Bay U16 Trappers) has 14 points in 24 games.

Another 2008 to keep an eye on is 2008 goalie Carson Ruddy. He plays for the U15AAA Sudbury Nickel Capitals, but dressed for a GNML game on Nov 20. He was backup that game on the worst team in the league (North Bay U16 Trappers), and he went in partway through first down 3-1, ended up winning 5-4 in OT vs. Kapuskasing who are a decent team.

I have heard that the Soo 2008 group is quite strong also.

meh.. what’s Harry ever done

:)
Agreed.....I mean he's skilled, but I don't think the AMOUNT of attention he has yielded aligns with his actual skillset....room for growth though?

I will back up the 07' goalie Nathan Maguire. Even while playing with the nationally ranked team ( U18AAA Soo Jr Greyhounds) He is still superior between the pipes, and has IMPROVED his game immensely in a short period of time..

I have heard that the Soo 2008 group is quite strong also.
The 08 Soo Group will be a force to be reckoned with....

Hudson is the #1 player in the entire northern league....although Brock is likely the SHINING star of the family, Hudson is highly skilled

Every team within the GNML is LOADED with 07 players, who have PLAYED their entire league at the U18 level, giving them a higher level of compete.....
07 players
SSM = 12
NBU18 = 1
KAP = 2
TIMMINS = 8
SUD U18 = 1
NL = 7

and then obviously the SudburyU16, and North Bay U16 is primarily comprised of 07 players.....

Considering SSM is classed as a U18 team, they have the biggest 07 presence, and are ranked 13th in Ontario...

Statistics on their own are a dangerous and misleading measuring stick. I’m more curious with players who can generate against the better teams. Teams in the GNML are not ranked as highly among U16 in Ontario as the other leagues, so I can’t judge any of these players since I haven’t seen them play head to head VS top teams. Does anyone have any insight?

The Soo team is ranked 13th in Ontario, and HAS played against the likes of all the top teams.....

That's great but playing U18, especially in the GNML is not the great feat you make it out to be.

U18 isn't great hockey. Certainly lower quality than U16 across the board.

That U18 Soo team playing high end U16 teams would get absolutely smacked around.

While I agree there are some talented 2007 GNML players on U18 Soo team, I concur with Isaac that they would get beaten handily by many GTHL, OMHA teams

And to answer a question above, the GMML gets an “all star” birth in the OHL Cup, so many of these kids will get a chance to showcase their talents done south one last time before the draft.

Really not a fair comparison hockey wise when you look at the population demographics of the GTA as compared to northern Ontario. The GTA is basically a stacked league with a massive population. Look at the controversial thread below regarding this league. Players moving around from one team to another jockeying for position and trying to get noticed. There have been some skilled players drafted from northern communities. They just don't have the same amount of money thrown at their leagues and not nearly the same amount of politics. Outside the GTA there are not as many Triple A teams. Cities need to have a higher population to find the skilled players necessary to be able to compete in these highly contested GTA leagues. When you watch the Gold Cup you can see the difference in teams outside the GTA. Yet you can still see some skilled hockey players from the north that have an impact on games they play in.

The U18 All Ontario tourney is usually the same week as the OHL cup so the league champs don't get to participate. if the Soo wins, none of their 07's will be able to play as they'll be somewhere else.

at least that's the way its been in the past....

EMC defeats London tonight 2-1 in overtime. Very impressive showing by '08 Beckham Edwards as he assisted on both goals (Hampton scored both.) Edwards is a beautiful skater and is always in the right place.

EMC goalie Koprowski had a strong game as well. He moves well with good size and looks very comfortable in the net.

Like many of us were speculating about, William Moore is attending the US NTDP.

Big loss if he goes through with it.
Side note: interesting that the camp is happening this weekend. Means the top American teams will be able to have their full squad if they want to play in the OHL Cup. If I remember correctly in the past few years the USNDTP has lined it up so their camp is on the same weekend as the OHL Cup so that can't happen
