I'm listening to a webcast over at usahockey.com. I'd rather be watching!
Well I tell you, you didn't miss much. Total uneventful first - but the reffing is good for once - he's letting them play so far and has only called two headshots and a too-many-men. The swedes have surprisingly out-hit the Americans, mostly open ice, but nothing big. On the kessel goal (if they didn;t mention it) the ref set an accidental pick on the left wing break-out man and kessel had a clear lane and a gimme. Still, a wicked snapshot, low to far side.
Not many shots either way. The US has a far better fore-check - that is, when they can get the puck in, as the Swedes have the neutral zone completely bottled up with the trap. The US has to start dumping it in and crashing their way through, as Kessel did on the last shift there.
Swedes have had two powerplays and generated little but for a few flurries on the second. The US pk looks good - applying a lot of pressure on the Swedish point, who look nervous and afraid to handle the puck (I predict a shorthanded breakaway for the US before this is out). Bergfors, though, looked good behind the net twice.
Swedes also need to start sending more than one forechecker in - though that would negate their coveted trap I guess. So maybe they'll just hang back and hope for a pp goal.
Neither goalie has been tested really, though the Swedish goalie looks like he a bad warmup, making two or three awkward saves.
