Fitz is playing 4D chess with the rest of the league and going to add Kaprizov lite on an ELC to a back-to-back Cup champion Devils in the future.
I think this is actually what he thinking. Especially when he has examples of players through the league, who was/is good enough for AHL but isn't ready for NHL. Having Mercer, may be Meier, Bratt on the new deal, and more experienced Luke, Simon and Arseniy on ELC is privilege.

Yeah i have no problem with Gritsyuk coming over in 2-3 years. There’s barely room for him now and the Devils still need to figure out what they have in Holtz, Zetterlund, Mercer, Boqvist, not to mention Foote and Clarke and Thompson and all the others. And that’ll be easier with Tatar, Johnsson, and possibly Wood playing somewhere else. It’d be great to have a plug and play addition on an ELC once a lot of the fat has been trimmed.

Wheeler on Grits:

6. Arseni Gritsyuk, LW, 21 (Avangard Omsk)

Gritsyuk’s development has become somewhat of a marvel, transforming his projection in the four seasons since the Devils selected him in the fifth round. That has continued this year, as the KHL’s second-leading under-22 forward and Omsk’s fourth-leading scorer.

He’s comfortable in puck possession as a handler against top defenders and his skill level distinguishes his game. His shot is dangerous and he has added a hard one-timer to his toolbox. He has also grown an inch (now 5-foot-11) and added 20-plus pounds (now 192) since the draft, to remove some of the worries about his once small and skinny frame.

He’s fast through a light, agile stride, hanging onto pucks out wide and cutting to the interior on his edges to create chances to the slot to create high-danger looks. The more I watch him, the more confident I am that his success over the last couple of years is not a fluke. He’s not going to be a star or anything but he looks like a complementary top-nine winger with some power play and offensive zone value.

So Sharangovich 2.0

Saying bottom 9 and top 9 is semantics at some point. 2/3 of that are the same in both scenarios.
Yeah but that’s intentional, because I think the overlap between two players outcomes is large, but gritsyuk has the potential to be a carry along first liner, while that doesn’t really work for Rango imo.

Fair enough, I think Sharangovich is better suited with Hughes but for whatever reason is slotted in the bottom two lines but it's irrelevant to the point I suppose. If Grits winds up being Sharangovich that's a win regardless of where they slot into the lineup.

Watching that vid, he seems to be a perimeter player. Few of his goals are from in front and from driving the net. Seems like his one timer is deadly from the right dot on the PP. Almost like the reverse Ovechkin spot.
Imagine he turns out to be Ovechkin-Lite.... :amazed:

(Just kidding)
