You are making some massive assumptions here on US TV deal. But like I said the earliest any HRR impact could occur is after the 2021 season. So even in a best case scenario it is ZERO impact on next season. And there is NO gambling deal at this point in time. So again it is extremely likely there is ZERO impact on next season. Now wrt to Seattle again many people making some huge assumptions. And again there will be ZERO impact on next season either way. They don't start til following year. and if you are relying on info from Friedman a Western uni dropout well I fear for you. That guy gets fed info and he has no idea on anything one way or the other. When Bettman was asked about his earlier 84M CAP guess he went QUIET. He has never before done that after the BOD mtg. This from a guy who is the ultimate promoter like his promised massive US TV deal after 5 years in league. We are still waiting .....

The NHL cap was 73M prior to Vegas coming in. It was $75M during Vegas' first season. The Cap went up to $79.5M the next season. That is a $6.5M swing.

MGM deal is DONE. Link
direct quote "The American Gaming Association released a report Oct. 2 saying the NHL's annual revenue may increase by $216 million because of legalized sports betting. NHL revenues exceeded $4.5 billion last season."

with all of the variables taken into account : 5% inflator (at 81.5M is 4.075M) + Seattle revenue + MGM gambling deal + TV deal ==== a $6-10M increase in the NHL salary cap in the next 2-3 seasons.

These are facts added with simple math.

First players will never go back to artificially inflating cap, as just more escrow.
Heard on radio NHL network I think, 1 to 1.5 million cap rise for next year.

Leafs cap situation certainly isn't the worse in the league. And they don't have those NTCs like Tampa and San Jose has which limits some player movements.
The 18m for 12 players. No real high profile RFA signings...Dermot, Mikheyvov, Engvall, Liljegren, Sandin expected to be Leafs, a back up goalie. UFA Holl maybe
Leafs still have the ability to trade a forward likely a winger with some cap to get cap space for a Dman. The Leafs and their cap isn't as problematic as so many make it out to be.

No NHL gambling contract has been approved by either the NHL BOD or the NHLPA. I am not saying that one can't happen but it is Christmas 2019 and nothing has been done yet. So very unlikely anything will materialize for next seasons CAP.

and Seattle could very well drop NHL overall revenues. again another big assumption. But again nothing will materialize for next seasons CAP. 2021.

and TV deal is 2 years away so nothing for next season CAP either. 2012.

apparently reading and comprehension are not your strong suits.

"The announcement of the multiyear partnership that designates MGM as an official gaming partner and resort destination of the NHL was made by NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and MGM Resorts Chairman & CEO Jim Murren at a press conference Monday.

Commissioner Bettman called the partnership "both exciting and groundbreaking for our League." Murren called it "historic."

"This is a broad, encompassing relationship between two powerful brands," Commissioner Bettman said

There is no exclusivity in the partnership between the NHL and MGM, meaning the League can enter into partnerships with other sports betting entities and give them access to the same real-time data MGM will receive.

Revenue created by this partnership is considered hockey-related revenue, which means owners and players will split it 50/50, according to the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

The revenue earned by the League in the partnership is fixed, meaning it is not entitled to any revenue based on actual bets placed."

OK maybe it will kick in next year then. Are they finished testing this year? or is it still more testing next year? when does it go live? when do revenues actually kick in?

Cap should go up to 84ish, which will get us to at least 19.5M in space. We'll likely trade Johnsson, so 23M space for 14 players...

Sign Mikheyev 4x3.5M
Sign Ceci 4x4M
Sign Dermott 2x2M
Sign Engvall 2x0.8M
Sign Timashov 2x0.8M
Sign Guathier 2x1M
Sign a Back-up Goaltender for 1.25M
Bring up Liljegren (0.863)
Bring up Sandin (0.894)
Bring up Korshkov (0.925)

That leaves approximately 7M for:
1 Top 4 Dman
1 #7 Dman
1 #14 Forward or 1 #8 Dman

Nylander-Matthews-Kapanen
Mikheyev-Tavares-Marner
Moore-Kerfoot-Hyman
Engvall-Gauthier-Timashov
Petan

Rielly-Ceci
Dermott-???
Sandin-Liljegren
#7

Andersen
Back-up.

Edit: I forgot Korshkov! He'd fit in there somewhere!

Not bad, but would look so much better if we had Kadri slotted in Kerfoot's spot.

What an awful, awful trade

Ceci will be gone and one of AJ/Kap at the tdl me thinks
I think this is where Kyle‘s plan falls apart either that or Time to start cheating the cap because of his stupidity I can see us losing a lot of good players for nothing

Ceci, AJ and Barrie are all spare parts on this team. We need to turn them into picks next year, a backup goalie and decent defensive defender with a good CAP hit. I have faith that Dubie will get the job done. Lily can play now and replace Ceci and not much lost even this year. Engval can replace AJ and brings a 200 ft game and some more size to lineup and Rielly can eat Barrie's PP time and not much lost. Drop the defensive defender with Rielly and we improve our defense. We improve our CAP and we have some younger guys with more fight in theirs games trying to get contracts. All good.

Next year will be much easier than this year with cap increase and no LTIR. Dubas has an opportunity to reshape the defence, pretty exciting.

hyman (2.25) matthews (11.634) nylander (6.962)

sandin (0.894) holl (0.95)

kessel (1.2)

***Kapanen moved for futures

^^^ = $66.56 million. Need to sign mikheyev, a an extra forward, an extra defenseman, a top pairing defenseman to play with rielly and a proper backup goalie. This leaves us $14.94 million to accomplish this assuming the cap stays at $81.5 million.

13th forward and 7th defenseman should be no more $1 million for each. Assuming we overpay for a good backup, $2.5 million. That leaves over $14 million to sign a top pairing defenseman. realistically i could see us extending muzzin at $6 million, rotating holl, sandin and lily as the 7th depending on who is playing well and still have $8 million to sign the best defesneman we can find.

looking at the list of ufa rd there are several who would possibly be a reasonable upgrade? depending on what we do, maybe we can get 2 of these guys?

-pietrangelo
-vatanen
-tanev
-hamonic
-montour
-gudas

rielly-tanev ($5.5)
dermott-hamonic ($5.5)
sandin-lily
holl

point is, it isnt all doom and gloom. we have pretty good depth at wing at entry level pricing. we could move kap and or johnsson for futures and clear up an extra $3 million + in cap space.

Barrie's pretty great.
Offensively yes. But last night he again caused us a goal by being scared to eat a puck. Even if you are a small guy you need to be strong enough as a defender to eat on one for the team. Brace yourself take the blow and wait for whistle. There are times in a game where 3 forwards make a rush and get caught. So they are not back. You can't dump it over the glass anymore like we used to. So there are times when skating does not work. You need to sacrifice for your team. Every good defense worth his salt knows this.
