Honestly, I don't get why he's on the third line.

What I am having problems understanding is AV's insistance that Kreider-Step-Nash is the go to line for anything production, they shoot a lot but its not like they score more more than any other line.

However, Zucc's "problem" (using the word problem very losely here), is that the team is winning, much thanks to Hank, better D, and better everything. And as a coach you dont change what works. Unless you are Torts then you change things every 5 minutes.

It's also difficult to argue that the Poo-Brass-Zucc line isnt working, because the last few games they've been great. The issue is that Brass isnt netting goals on order, and Poo is still better infront of the net on the PP, but he has a good game. Poo also nearly rocketed one in the net on a feed from Zucc, if he hadnt managed to hit Howard head.

Personally I really want to see a Kreider-Brassard-Zucc line. Kreider is big and strong and has a great finish, and might be able to capitalize more on the feeds from Brass and Zucc than anyone else on the team right now. So for me the wish lines is something like:

Hags-Richards-Nash
Kreider-Brass-Zucc
Poo-Stepan-Cally
Boyle-Moore-Carbomb

If we start losing, I wish we could try that for a bit.

Honestly, I don't get why he's on the third line. Kreider, Richards and Zucc are team leaders in goals. Richards has 1 more point, but last 30 games, Zucc has been by far the Rangers best player.

Kreider - Stepan - Zucc (Was a beautiful composition early in the season)
Nash - Richards - Callahan (Maybe switch with Hagelin)
Pouliot - Brassard - Hagelin (Maybe switch with Callahan)
Boyle - Moore - Carcillo

Richards has also played about 70 something minutes more. I would't mind seing Nash and Hags switch places. AV is at least pretending to play three equal lines. Otherwise fully agree.

The little guy continues to prove that talent trumps all.

Give me more talent please. And he's not afraid to shoot it either. He scores all kinds of goals.

He's been and continues to be a pleasant surprise.

Isn't it funny our 2 best players weren't drafted by us.....

I think Zucc and Kreider should switch places. Absolutely not because I think Kreider should be demoted, but because Kreider needs a passer who can get him the puck in Brassard, and Zucc can use his magic to jumpstart Stepan, who REALLY needs some jumpstarting.

He has been like having a extra 1st or 2nd round pick.

We have a bunch of lines that have some great chemistry and you guys want to juggle them? What kind of bizarro world is this? I think the Pouliot-Brass-Zucc line is our 2nd line, they get lots of offensive zone starts and have produced more chances than the Richards line. MAYBE i could see flipping a winger like Kreider for Pouliot but with how the team has been playing I don't think thats a good idea until things start going wrong.

I totally agree with you.

When it comes to prospects, and Zucc was one recently, this board wants size, size and more size. That's because size is quantifiable, whereas skill is not, so we can just imagine that a player is skilled, but not that he's big.

I couple of years ago people here were pushing for guys like Mark McNeil, Joel Armia, Stefan Noesen, Tyler Biggs to be drafted. But at the time I wrote that there must be a reason why an average-sized guy (like Miller) would be ranked the same as a big-guy. If the two of them have the same skill, the bigger guy should be ranked significantly higher. The fact that they are ranked the same, means the bigger guy is less viewed as less skilled (or more injury prone or some other negative that makes up for his physical positives).

Everyone wanted the big guys, but they are all marginal AHLers right now. Granted, all of them are still 20-21 years old, but so is Miller and he's a star at the AHL level. I don't think any of these big guys will become difference-makers the way Zuccarello is.

Not to nit pick, but they were scouted heavily.

That's at least some of the people that work on the draft.

....and I still want some bigger guys to bang bodies to make opposing teams hurt a little. It's balance, balance, balance. If you look at Anaheim you see a team about as balanced as they can possible be.

Zucca can play in all lines. But its crazy let him play in third line. 2-line: Kreider - Richards - Zuccarello its dymamite.

do our top 3 lines even get significantly different ES ice time to warrant *****ing bout a player not being on the 1st when they should be?

Zucc gets the 4th most ice-time among forwards.

He gets the 6th most ES time among forwards.

So no, I don't see how anyone could complain about his ice time.

I'm not complaining about ice-time, rather line mates. Whether he was on 1st 2nd or 3rd seems irrelevant.
I believe he would do wonders for a player like Nash and would fully utilize Kreiders potential if paired with him.

How much ES time he gets isnt all that relevant since AV rolls 3 lines pretty evenly anyway. The issue is production potential, which is arguably going to waste on his current line, but would benefit greatly from playing on a line with players that know where the net is, like Kreider, or even Nash even tho he needs 10 shots on goal pr game minimum apparently.

An article about Mats in the NY Times

Not all that much new, but still a worthwhile read. Nice goal today too, glad that he's keeping up consistency despite literally never shooting, after going through a period where he shot more than almost anyone. 2 goals for 2 shots the past 2 games now.

In all honesty , I had no faith that Zuccs would be able to make the transition to NA hockey, thank you for proving me wrong Zuccs , respect

Beautiful goal today. Made Anderson look silly with that move

I was trying to contemplate why his deke is so effective.... More often than not he gets the goaltender to commit to the one side and then has a pretty good opening with which to shoot. I guess he sells it really well?

Many of the players stickhandle/deke and the goaltenders just don't buy it and remain squared to the shooter....

I guess a lot of it comes down to the players subtle body movements in addition to the stickwork.....
