Value wise. The team will probably be better. For a while.

The thing I don't like here is giving up the 2nd. The lefty thing is great and he should really help the PP imo.

Anyone have a good handle on his fancy stats? I'm far too busy hunting Pokemon to look.

I'm disgusted. Terrible move. I personally saw more in Zibanejad than in Turris. Sure he's raw, but he was becoming honed. I guess we'll see how it goes.

Looking forward to seeing a new one-two punch down the middle. With Brassard having much more agile+fast skating, it really changes things.

Weird trade but for some reason I don't feel worked up about it.

I guess the Sens' hope is that once Brass starts to decline, White and Brown will be able to take over.

I feel like this deal makes us slightly better in the short term. Given that EK just put up 82 points, that seems like a good thing.

Ok, I'm ok with this.

Wow... angry as hell, but will likely like it later.

Thats how it has been for most Rangers fans regarding this trade. Brassard is a fan favorite and was a huge part of our runs to the SCF and ECF the following year. He almost has Vinny Prospalesque reactions after scoring a goal or something. I think most Ottawa fans will like him instantly.

We probably wanted Brassard enough that the Rangers were able to get a 2nd.

We just paid his $2 million bonus on July 15th. The teams have been talking since early July. I think the pick was to compensate us for paying the bonus.

I'd be more confident in the team adopting a win-now position if we weren't also hearing that we delayed the trade and threw in a pick to avoid paying our new talent a 2 million dollar bonus.

Well it's not Dorion's fault that Melnyk is a cheap owner. I personally think he did fine under the circumstances.
I would gladly give up the 2nd pick if it meant we couldn't keep one of Ceci or Hoffman without the trade

We just traded for a player coming off a 27 goal season last year, 118 points over the last 2 years, who has better possession and shot suppression numbers, has played under Boucher for 2 years in Drummondville (06-07), is a playoff beast, local guy and people are *****ing about a 2nd round pick?

I think they also forget that we are a young team and adding a 28 year old 200 foot center isn't a bad thing. I much rather have Brassard's consistency on the 2nd line with Hoffman and Ryan over a 23 year old center that always leaves you with question marks and wanting more... I get that he is young with potential blah blah, but this move was a win now move from mgmt and I like it.

Isn't that a very smart move in any situation?

The budget complaints are getting old. Highly doubt money was why Dorion pulled this move. Sure, it played a part in it as it always does, but it's not a big enough discount for people to point at it and cry "cheap ass owner" again.

At first I was like huh?

But honestly I'm ok with it.

I think brassard is a bit better than Zib. And I'd take currently better now over the potential we've talked about for the last 2-3 years

You'll likely like Zibanejad too. If he's ever hungry, he'll be a tremendous player, and there's plenty of time for that. Some games he's dominated against the likes of the California teams.

The main problem I have with this deal is that Brassard is a UFA in 3 seasons. He's basically a left-handed Turris, who himself is a UFA in two seasons. With a potential #1 center added to the organization in Brown, will the budget-conscious Sens really commit to re-signing Turris and Brassard long-term for 5-7 million each per season? Not sure I see this team spending 5-6M a season for Brassard to be the 3rd line center in 5 years time.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if Brassard played 3 years here and then left as a UFA. Would be even worse if we let Turris leave to re-sign Brassard. Zib was perfect as a cost-controlled upcoming RFA because he wouldn't cost too much to re-sign and would have fit perfectly as this teams 3rd line center down the road.

New York likely wanted a prospect and Ottawa said no.

You sold me at Vinny.

Well, Brassard is my kinda player so I think I will be happy watching him in an Ottawa jersey.

We're already pretty young when you look at our core. Our vets are Methot, Smith, Phaenuf, Neil and Kelly.

Turris, Mac, Stone, Hoffman, Karlsson, Ceci, Lazar, Pageau are pretty yougn.

I don't mind gaining age becuase we have Brown and White in the pipeline.

29 means he still has 3 years of solid hockey in him.

How is MacArthur considered "pretty young" and Methot is a "Veteran" when they're the same age?

MacArthur is not young, and his future is up in the air with injury problems. If he's healthy, he should be in that veteran category.

It is interesting how Zibanejad could never find chemistry with any player. Beyond 20 games with Silfverberg.

Haha sorry, please put Mac in the vet category. I blooped on one person.

Still, you can see there is a lot of youth that make up this teams core.

Nice catchy oakie!

The age argument is confusing to me. Should we be trying to get younger, or stay the course and waste Karlsson's prime?

hfboards is always like this. Age is one of the dumbest arguments I keep seeing in any trade. Unless a player is way over the hill, or just entering the NHL, age should not be a factor. Players do not develop linearly upwards and downwards based on age like it's NHL 16. At the end of the day, both players are in their prime or just entering their prime.

I think it's a ****ing brilliant trade. Shrewd move by Dorion, getting Brassard on the cheap. Allowing to spend more on Hoffman and other potential improvements. It also makes our team better today. Just looking at the stats line doesn't do this trade justice. Zibanejad doesn't not play a style that makes other players around him better. I also have my doubts he'll ever reach his true potential.

But ofcourse, this does not fit under hfboards' golden formula:
(Points * (1/Age))/Cap Hit

Zibanejad = 0.84456
Brassard = 0.399968

0.84456 >>>> 0.399968

ERMAHGERD! WORST TRADE EVAR!!!

Edit: Forgot to add the 2nd round pick, with this being hfboards, is obviously worth one million trade points, so:
1,000,000.84456 >>>>>>>>> 0.399968
