Habs fan voting Zegras but it's close.

Suzuki is the next Bergeron….

Scratch that the current Bergeron

Suzuki is so overrated defensively by Habs fans it's not even funny. He's fine on 5v5 but he's a tire fire on the PK. He's got a long way to go to even catch Plekanec. (speaking purely defensively, he's surpassed Plekanec offensively already)

Stive that tshirt starting to get to your brain

Plekanec was one of the best defensive player of his era, its not really a fair standard. When we talk about defensive ability nobody cares about PK, its ES that matters.

Lmao what? Defensive ability in shorthanded situations is absolutely a valued quality. I'm not gonna act like ES defending isn't very important but acting like PK defending is irrelevant is downright silly.

It is, but they should be viewed separately. Pk specialist exist because it is an entirely different game and because it is not as valuable as ES play.

at the same age

Zegras put up 61, 65 to Suzukis 41, 41.

I think zegras has the higher potential, right now they are pretty close…. The poll doesn’t really say this year or going forward…. So assuming it’s going forward , zegras pretty comfortably…. This year prob debatable
Got to be fair to Suzuki here, the first season he had 41 in 71 during a season cut short by the start of COVID and the second year of 41 for Suzuki was in the shortened 56 games season which over a full 82 game season would be 60. So not as big of a difference.

What? So being a top notch 2-way center like ohh say Bergeron is not desirable? A center that plays in all situations is not something a team would want?

I don't know if he can become the next Bergeron but he can become a great 2-way center that plays in all situations who during his best years might even get his share of Selke votes.

I have no idea how you understood that from my post, absolutely none.

You know it's a good poll when people are arguing as much as this lol. Well done.

2 good players, really comes down to preference in style.
Its only good because of the anti habs bias

What has he shown so far defensively to be even in the same book let alone sentence as Bergeron ? He’s an average to below average center defensively. If he has that upside so do like 100 other current players . He’s nothing special at all . I stand behind my vanilla comment . Decent at a bunch of stuff , master of none.

Bigot? Really ? Maybe I missed a comment ..

I mean, it's the dude second job (if he has one to begin with) to pollute threads involving the habs organization or fanbase. Totally fitting, in a dramatic way I can agree :)

I'd take Zegras. But it's close. It's really just a matter of that extra offensive upside. Suzuki is the much better two-way player and has a pretty high level of offensive ability himself...it's just that Zegras teases at the sort of skill level that could make him one of the league's premiere offensive talents if he can get a bit stronger and refine his all-around game more to take advantage. Even if that's ultimately on the wing.
