No matter what, he's gonna get paid. Guys like him, big strong defensemen that can play hockey and get physical are worth every penny and every teams want them.

He can get 6x6 but giving term to this style D is a huge mistake. Tough spot for Vancouver for sure.

If he hits the open market, he's definitely going to Nashville.

This has trotz written all over it after he said his team needs to get more physical after losing in the 1st rd.

Even more likely after the Mcdanough trade. Trotz gonna give him a bag

They should let him walk then. Plenty of 4-6 guys you can get in the league that you’re not committed to 6 years for

I'm surprised Zadorov's team rejected this contract - I don't think he deserves more money or term than this

Under the old cap I agree. With the new cap and $92M starting the 25/26 season, he is looking for inflation raise.

Term is good. Probably wants $5.5 or $6M

what he deserves and what he is going to get on the open marked are two different things ... i am not surprised at all they rejected the contract

5.25 X 7 years, modified clause contract, 4/5 years NMC then NTC with 16 teams listed. ;)

Oh ya, 12 mil in signing bonuses the first two years.

Z will be 29 still when the new contract takes effect. There are comps for 36 or 37 year old defensemen, so the Canucks won’t run afoul of the league with a 7 or 8 year deal. Leverage signing bonuses and structure the deal so annual pay is cut as aggressively as possible after year 3. Back diving is less dramatic than it used to be, but it’s still somewhat possible. Offer some NTC and/or NMC protection for the first few years.

This all assumes the owners are on board with big upfront payments. But I think it could be possible to keep Z at a caphit below 5M.

All of which is to say I’m on the same page, I suppose.

For Canuck fans not to like his new contract, i think the AAV would have to start with a 6.

I think most Canucks fans would be happy with an AAV of around 4-5.75 mil AAV

Big Z is an absoloute monster. He is a bully when it becomes playoff time. Canuck fans absoliutely love what he brings to the table, the contract would have to be extremely overpaid for them not to like it.

Also lets be honest, winning changes perception. Look at the Oilers for example, is anyone complaining that Darnell Nurse has 2 points in the playoffs and is a minus player while making 9+ milll?

Canucks will be happy with the contract as long as they continue to progress and go deeper in the playoffs.
Yes a lot of people complaining about Nurse still. As will a lot if Zaddy signs a bad contract with the Canucks

Zadorov always wants more than he is worth. Just look at his contract history.

I hope he re-signs in Vancouver for $5+.

People will change their mind on him pretty quick when he's no longer shooting 19% like he was in the playoffs.

Nobody expects Zadorov to score goals. It's nice when he does though.

I get you're an oilers fan and therefore anything you say about the nucks or Zadorov has to be taken with a grain of salt but do you actually think we give a shit about how many goals he scores? The guys a force that literally changes the flow of the game with his physical style of play.
You would love the guy if he was an oilers
I get it tho, he basically called Edmonton a shit- hole so of course you're going to bash the guy.

How many goals Zadorov scored in the playoffs is definitely going to color the perceptions of how the player is viewed.

Were there any Canucks fans stating Zadorov absolutely needed to be brought back at $5 million dollars or more BEFORE the playoffs started?

I've watched the guy play extensively for the last few years in Calgary, and would absolutely not want him on the Oilers at the price tag he is asking. I see him as a Ceci/Kulak level defenceman. No point in backing up the brinks truck for that.

There is a reason the guy played third pairing minutes for much of the year in Vancouver. He's not that good.

Lol. He doesn’t do that.

Lol. No we wouldn’t. I’d rather have the much more appropriately paid 3 pair D-man in Desharnais.

Zadorov is a physical, defensive defenseman going over 30. Career high of 22 pts, played 17mins per game last season for Vancouver, which ranked 6th on D... behind Soucy, Cole, Myers.

Am I missing something? Feels like that contract is a recipe for disaster.
