Gigantic IF, but if that were possible, it might give them a truly unreal Blueline
As sad as that loss was, the Leafs still make th playoffs imo. But for sure there's always surprises every year. If the Leafs fall apart then Reilly would be for sale. Or maybe they would just finally trade Marner so they can afford to re sign Reilly.

There is a small but real chance hyman is a better winger for Mcdavid than Drai.

Which should concern 30 NHL teams right now
As it stands, I see zero urgency to start a game with McDrai line, even at home. It's always an option mid-game as a momentum boost. They should let the lines settle in for now.

Edit: Drai and Nuge are going to get the Yammer Man back on his horse... and then we're really rockin'.

After watching last night's game I was thinking about how mad some of us have been that Hyman doesn't always get to play with mcdavid. And I realized something: surely the major reason the coach has been switching up the top lines is just to throw opponents off their game plan. Think about how different it is to prepare for the oilers when you're preparing for 97-29 on the same line versus when they are spread out. It is a totally different team in many respects and I think tippett is a genius for doing it. Planning your line combinations as the opposing team has to be a nightmare, not knowing whether you will get the balanced or the top heavy oilers. Thank you Zack for making this a possibility!
A 3rd line and established 5 of Top 6 isn't something we could talk about for a LONG time.

There were other players out there, and you just have to wonder how much they really targeted Hyman and for how long.
Holland has been patient in a lot of ways. JP is a big part of the Top 5 right now and Foegle was a real gutsy trade. As much as I can't wait to see what they do this year, I'm so excited about the upcoming ~3 seasons as Holland will keep building and pushing this squad!

The word is (I can’t remember who said it, might have been Stauffer) they have wanted Hyman for a long time

Honestly we have had a solid 3rd line just twice in the salary cap era.

Pouliot-Letestu-Kassian 2016/17. We were a win away from the conference finals
And the 2006 team when we were a win from the cup.

That depth is so crucial, no matter how good you are at the top.

People point to goaltending as a difference in the series last year, but I honestly think us lacking Hyman, Foegle and Ryan was the difference last year in the playoffs.

Hyman seems to have chemistry with everyone and to excel in every situation. I had no idea he was so good at penalty killing but he and Nuge as the first line PK have been making a difference.

I was so scared that this contract would be Lucic 2.0. And who knows, it might end up that way dollar-wise and production-wise...but I don't think it'll be the same character-wise.

I've been proven wrong by Hyman so far and I like it.

Why are you so mean?
It's not us, it's Dubas. We're happy to have Hyman AND still have our 5th/7th picks (sorry, not sorry - not your fault though). I think TO still makes the playoffs too - as long as Matthews stays healthy. That team is in trouble though, and running out of time for their current window. The big four at over 40 million....woooooof.

They actually spent 1/2 their salary cap on 4 players? Honestly, is that normal? That seems like alot to me.
