Maybe but to further the point about his salary. I’m sure another team would be FAR more willing to a chance to find that out for 700K as opposed to 5+mil.

Sure. But he wont sign a 700K AAV contract.

His current deal would have paid out around $1.1M for the last 40 days of the season. Someone will prob toss him something worth $400-$500k, which is around $2M AAV or so.

Good riddance. Blowgo is and has been completely awful for years. Him playing even ONCE over Colin Miller was a huge mistake.

Terminate his deal and lets get this 5.14 mil in cap space!

I wonder if we can do this next year to Okposo. See if riding a bus for 3 full years is worth 14 mil to him.

The question is more would the Pegulas be willing to eat 14 large for 3 years and have to spend more to replace it on the NHL roster.

Almost guarantee that answer is no.

I’m talking about him signing for league minimum ( around 700k). I wasn’t breaking it down into the pro rated portion of it he would actually be paid.

I highly doubt anyone is giving him much more than league minimum. He has zero leverage and was terrible this year after returning from hip surgery. For a reference point Kovy signed for 700K.

Yeah, I gotta think that this has likely been discussed by Botts and Bogo's agent.

Bogo fails to report. Botts moves to terminate the contract due to said failure. Bogo agrees to the termination and is free to sign anywhere for the rest of the season. I wonder if Botts even said to Bogo's agent: "Look, we tried. Hard. But the league as a whole is up against your cap and no one wants your client even at 50% retained" and then a deal was made from there.

I think he was a dink for not taking better care of himself physically. I do question his off-season preparedness year upon year because he was constantly suffering from some sort of injury. He's not a guy we have ever hear about as a gym rat, or taking high-performance bodywork classes. He's just out there turkey hunting. He may only be 29, but his body and how he prep'd it, were insufficient.

I'm glad the player is gone. He may be a great guy, awesome with the charity work, but his impact on the ice was almost always a net negative.

I agree with this and would only add I don’t believe he was a good influence on the kids. Great community guy and well liked, but not a guy to teach kids how to be professionals.

In his career, Zach Bogosian has earned over 30 million dollars and played exactly zero playoff games. People really think he cares more about adding another 1.5 mil to that pile than he does a chance to sign with a playoff team?

This decision isn't surprising at all. And good luck to him, he seems like a good dude and deserves a crack at the postseason.

I thought it was well known that Bogo is a gym rat. Him and his wife are fitness fanatics.

The agent was working on finding his client a home for weeks now. He knows who is going to toss a contract Bogo's way after the dust settles. This gets the termination part out of the way in time for Bogosian to be on another roster with playoff eligibility. It really seems like them giving him what they can so he moves on to a situation he wants. It's similar to Moulson being allowed to go close to his wife's family out in California.

Big head never thought to do this in order to trade for the coveted Frolik... no.. he thought it best to trade Scandella at the point he thought he had no choice or leverage

He needed that extra 4th round pick, since he already traded his 3rd.

I'll take that as a hint that Botterill has no plans to do anything for this team between now and the deadline. At least his hands can stay warm through the winter with all the sitting on them he's doing.

yep. I’m a bit confused by those arguing he didn’t put the workouts in.

I poorly stated that his preparation techniques should be questioned given his history of injuries. He was a combine warrior, one of those things Murray loved.

Okposo is a completely different situation.

1. He is not a complete liability on the ice unlike Bogo

2. Its absurd to think he's going to walk away with 3 years of guaranteed money left waiting for him. Maybe try it when his deal is actually expiring & he needs to fight for another.

All the best to Bogo. Hated him as a player for so long - but always seems like a good guy. Hope he gets a role somewhere which works for him.

No he isnt a liability just an average 4th line player at this point in his career. He is not getting another contract after this. He is turning 32 and is already reduced to a 4th line player with zero PP time. No one is signing a 35 year old Okposo.

With all his injuries, will Okposo swallow his pride to ride a bus for a couple years, take a beating in the AHL and deal with minor league doctors. It is possible he may retire instead of spending 2 seasons in the AHL riding a bus if we waive him in 21-22. His actual pay is 4 mil a year his last 2 seasons.

Respeck to Bogo. Seriously. Got fed up with him as a player, felt Botts handled his trade request poorly, but- dude wants to play hockey at the highest level and is willing to lose millions to make that happen. Ya he’s already got 30 million, doesn’t matter- it’s always easier to take the money and work less, and he loves playing in the NHL enough to reject that. Hope he gets signed somewhere as a 6th dman and has some success- I think he overrated his abilities, I think he has blinders on, but at the same time he’s a guy who has lived and breathed hockey his whole life, his career hasn’t gone how he’d like and he’s battled back through countless injuries, and he still wants to play and prove himself. That’s cool to me, good on Bogo.

Stopped over to say this. It always amazed me how often this dude would get injured. When he decided (less and less as his tenure moved along) to be a physical presence, he was rightfully feared. Whether hitting or fighting, Bogo was dominant. This season he seems to be consciously avoiding physical contact.
