Compher: on pace for 17 goals at over 5M per year
Gostisbehere: worst on team -4
Sprong: 9th forward in time one ice.
Holl: 3 points in 15 games, 6th defenseman in time on ice.
Kostin: 2 points in 15 games, 13th in time on ice among forwards
Reimer: Played 31% of his team's games
Getting swept by Boston in the first round? Priceless.

Still not buying it.
Cap space has value no matter how much people try to spin it otherwise.
Yes, the value is being able to use it. That value is also why Detroit is one of the few teams in the conversation for adding Kane, or being able to acquire a Lindholm, Nylander or other big name if they become available.

Wings have looked good in my limited viewings. From Wings fans, what’s the big change in terms of last year to this year besides Debrincat? Obviously Yzerman wanted to attack their depth.

Yes but the team has plenty of cap space and no cap issues in the foreseeable future. The player is playing well and the cap hit is a non-issue. You want it to be a terrible signing, but it clearly isn't.

It’s a bad signing for a number 6 D at two years. We will have to agree to disagree.
So the team would be better off with a worse player in that spot instead at 900k for a little bit of extra cap space that they don't need? He's playing well, and the team is playing well which is all that matters. The cap hit doesn't affect their ability to sign more players.

A bad signing would be for a player who is playing poorly, not for one that is playing well.

Yeah I’m not buying that one.
Number 6 D are minimum salary.
Not sure why Yzerman should be above criticism for some of his bad moves.
He’s made some good ones but as has been noted he’s made some poor ones too.
let us know how could yzerman have better spent that money in effort to get this team on a roll towards being respectable as that time has arrived ? let me answer that = he got the best ufa dman that would sign on , as opposed to not spending that cap and having a lesser team bound for another season of struggle . he got his big bodied long reach zone clogging dman of his type system , now he - peaches - chariot are vets to teach the edvinssons-gibsons-clevelands-wallinders-etc . yzermans play was to improve this season plus set up a rookie classroom , as opposed to not spending the cap space and say saving it to spend on a cap dump trade to add a draft pick . the choice was get better for now instead of gaining a pick . it dont matter if holl is over paid that cap space isnt important right now , and every gm ends up having to over pay eventually for players that are needed at the time . and next season a bunch of vets go ufa which add the needed cap to sign seider n raymond so holls cap hit not a problem

Like I said agree to disagree. A bad contract is a bad contract.

Are we still bringing this up?

Yes, I'd say Yzerman overpaid for these guys on the whole, but if the team is improved, good for the Wings. Stats (even advanced stats) don't show the whole story anyway.

And all of that combined with what the other guy posted shows that they were signed for exactly what they were meant to and right in line with their salaries.

So what’s your point?

And the Wings have a ton of cap space so why not use it for someone better rather than using a useless minimum salary #6D?

How many teams actually even have a minim salary #6D? I’m seeing very few

I think Yzerplan makes total sense and they’re doing a good job. Holl at his price and performance level has been great. Orlov is a third pair guy for the Canes making 7+. He doesn’t even get pp time right now.

Some people just want to criticize for the sake of criticizing. Some people are just against Detroit or Yzerman in general so they just bag on them no matter what. This year has been a clear step forward imo. Copp and Compher are very good fits especially imo.

Treat him like any other GM.
