Can someone explain to me the logic of signing George Burnett 2 to a 4 year deal?
Mactavish couldn't conceive of the idea that he could possibly be wrong about Eakins so he gave him a long contract to avoid speculation that his job could ever be in jeopardy. It sure didn't work. People have been calling for the coaches head since October and with every month he looks even more lost than the previous month.

Said this in the other thread, Mact says he has more faith in Eakins today than he did when he hired him.(oilers season ticket holder lunch)

It's amazing how many times MacTavish has had to defend Eakins publicly in his first year. He's done it at length in 2 press conferences and several media interviews.

Now this.

MacTavish is going to look pretty foolish if Eakins doesn't turn it around.

My relationship with the Oilers is abusive.

I think MacT saw this video and went for the closest thing he could find:

I am done with this team until Eakins is gone. I have never disliked a sports personality as much as this guy.

Playoffs can't motivate this team.

Being embarrassed and humiliated can't motivate this team.

A goalie standing on his head can't motivate this team.

A guy leaving it all on the ice despite minimal talent (Hendricks) can't motivate this team.

There's something very, very rotten with this team. Eakins is part of it but there's just so little try in these guys.

Good to know MacTavish is willing to let his idiot coach sewer the team for at least another season.

Hey Eakins has made the playoff in 2 of 8 years in a coaching position I think that's pretty close to Mac t record during that time. Can see why he is so fond of him.

This team needs Ted Nolan. He will get the effort out of them. Buffalo with its garbage team is giving it all everynight. Same with Calgary.

Our exponentially more talented team the hardest working players are on line 3/4.

On the bright side, we will get to pick Mcdavid

On the downside, he won't be playing with anyone since Mact will have traded all his talent for declining vets a la 2009

Should be fun for all those still watching

Jason Gregor keeps saying that coaching isn't the problem. He keeps repeating the same thing, on twitter, on the radio.

Guy doesn't play to his player strengths at all.

What would those strengths be?

Because it sure isn't all round hockey.

Offence first doesn't win in todays NHL. For any club.

These scrubs gotta learn to play both ends of the ice or be content missing playoffs.

Dallas Eakins is to the Oilers what Joe Sacco was the Avalanche I think. Although Sacco actually got them into the playoffs once.

they're just too small and not that good. Eberle, Gagner, RNH, you can see it. they try and do what they do, put they are too small.

everyone talks about the D, but I think the make up of the top 6 is as big a problem

Size doesn't seem to affect Montreal that much and they are even smaller than we are.

but they are not soft. and a better mix of size, tenacity and vets, like Pacoretti, Gallagher and Gionta.

small + soft + young + Eakins + Lowe +____ +____ = 29th place. Sure, Eakins can be questioned, but until the top 6 is modified and D improves, it will be difficult to gauge how much the coaching is to blame.

If they end up going 2-10 for the last 12 games (0-3 so far), Eakins might be toast. The ball is in the players hands right now.
