Why the coaches are mostly to blame?

Answer: Since the rebuild, every season there has been gradual improvement. This is the only season where most players on the team have sucked! Every area of the 'team' game digressed!

Firing Renney was a major mistake. The man coached a really good team game! Showed some promise and then ZAM fired!

Hiring Eakins was the worst kind of mistake!

After Eakins was hired, MacTavish stated that he should be judged on the basis of this hire.

Why MacTavish would attach his own credibility to the performance of a rookie head coach is anybody's guess. Not exactly a bright thing to do.

An egomaniac like MacTavish isn't capable of admitting mistakes, and he would look like a fool if he fired Eakins now. We can only guess how strongly MacTavish has gone to bat for Eakins internally, with Katz. He has clearly tied himself to Eakins in a major way, so now we're stuck with him.

I can't imagine Katz is too pleased with having to foot the bill for this clown for the next 4 years - all as a result of MacTavish's lack of judgment.

Hopefully Katz grows a pair at some point, decides to cut his losses, and runs all of these buffoons out of the organization.

this is really the only hope the oilers gave.... every single member of management needs to be fired, every single scout, every single trainer, every single, player development guy, the goalie coach, the assistant coaches, the head coach, everybody

this franchise is rotten to the core, our only hope of ever becoming even an average team is to rid ourselves of everybody currently involved with the team in any way whatsoever... until you cut the cancer out, it doesn't matter what else happens

Dallas Eakins is among the all-time worst coaches this franchise has ever hired.

He joins Pat Quinn and George Burnett...down at the bottom of a puke bucket where only the least prepared/least capable/most overwhelmed/most overrated coaches can go.

Since Eakins is used to batteries getting thrown at him, maybe someone should just yell "Surprise *****!" and hurl a Car battery at him.

Maybe that'll turn things around

The motto irks me "Chop wood Carry water" I find it almost offensive that he thinks that the people of Alberta are some hicks that need to do this. I worked a global corp and the Canadian President came out then in turn insulted every western based employee the term of that President came to an end very quickly. I don't think the Canadians or Leafs changed the motto because some greasy POS coach thinks himself bigger than the tradition of the teams. I found that very short sighted.

Mac T's biggest move during the off season was hiring Eakins. Not because he hired a new coach but because he promised the old one that his job was safe then fired him over Skype. Mac T would have to eat huge crow to admit that hiring Eakins was a mistake.

Couldnt agree more. I remember one CBC after hours hes talking about one of the previous jersey incidents and how Edmontonians arnt quitters then rambles "the people in the oil industry its my understanding are hard working blue collar not quitters".

Yeah news flash were not all a bunch of blue collar oil rig workers. Your own captain and his green agenda who is from this city is the antithesis of this annoying stereotype.

Hall and Eakins not on the ice to start practice as per Reid Wilkins.

EDIT: Hall is on the ice now.

EDIT #2: Eakins is now on the ice.

I bet MacT told them to say their piece and bury the hatchet.

Am I the only one who thinks Eakins shouldn't be fired? How coaches do you have to go through before you realize it's the the players that are not working. You simply can't go through a new coach after every season.

Is it the player's fault that coaches got replaced? I have no idea why Renney was fired, he was making progress. Why was Kreuger fired, he also made progress. This is management (Lowe) stomping out fires while trying to keep his job, he does not have the ability to look 3 years down the road.

This Eakins clown should be sent packing yesterday already, the team and individual players have regressed in every metric, even though players are a year older plus some of the MacT additions were good. Fire his barbie doll behind and bring up Todd Nelson to finish the season, maybe we will find out just how good of coach he is, we should have selected him instead of the Toronto media hyped Eakins.

Re: People who think the players are a problem or we need stability in coaching.

MacT
Quinn
Renney
Krueger

Which of these 4 coaches found head coaching positions in the NHL after they were fired? Answer: None. I added MacT in there because he hired Eakins and liked his coaching philosophy, and he fit the question too. I suspect Eakins will join that group soon since he is arguably the worst coach in franchise history.

That tells you all you need to know about the people we've had in charge here. Garbage coaching makes it much more difficult to single out which players are part of the problem and which aren't.

This coach just needs to bring a winning attitude. Not hissy fits and systems.

Take a page out of the playbook of one of greatest coaches of all time. Bill Belichick

After a 5-11 2000 season, the Patriots in the 2001 training camp passed out t-shirts with "Wanted: Winners" in large font and the definition of winner in small font underneath

winnerswanted2-500x500.jpg

Maybe the fans should be wearing these shirts at Rexall.

Think this is a bad argument.

NHL coaching gigs are very tough to get.

MacT (AHL timberwolves, more schooling, and TSN broadcasting)
Quinn (Retired for his health)
Renney (quickly snatched by a quality NHL organization as an assistant)
Krueger (Part of a gold medal team Canada and opted for a sport change)

None of those are overly terrible especially since most of them are still getting paid by the Oilers to do nothing :-P.

So you are pretty much just making excuses.

The Oilers had a shot at a lot of NHL level head coaches, but they passed them up for Dallas freakin Eakins (no pun intended).

Kevin Lowe has also been a part of many gold winning Hockey Canada teams. Doesn't mean much.

Renney is the only one who has had some success afterwards and he is an associate to one of the best head coaches in the league.

There are 30 teams in the NHL. Only room for 30 coaches.

I still cant believe this idiot is acting like Hall smashed his face with a direct water balloon assault. If dummy didnt take off his blazer and make such a humongous deal about it the cameras would'nt have even picked it up.

This loser probably never could afford a descent suit in his life and was ******** a storm because his super 180 got wet instead of being upset with the display on ice.

Im pretty sure, contract is terminated after you take a new job. They cant just take another job while getting paid, something is worked out between the franchise and new team/sport.

Can someone explain to me the logic of signing George Burnett 2 to a 4 year deal?

I agree the key players aren't pulling their weight and I'm dead set against firing coaches to right the ship but Eakins is so bad I don't see how keeping him is an option if this team is going make the play-offs.

Yeah, I'm not sure why we signed a rookie head coach to a 4 year contract. It's just so mind blowing, it makes no sense at all. Who would have this much confidence in an unproven quantity?

See the only logic to sign Eakins 4 years was for instances if he did gang busters and lets say took this team of misfits to the second round of the playoffs this year. Then people across the league would look and be saying "DAMMMMMNNN!!!!!!! we need to get us that bespoke dressing hair primping NHL boss!!" Sorry Hitch/Babs/Coach Q youre all out we want Eakins!!!!"

So then MacT can say..."sorry boys im kind of a genius locked him up at a steal of a contract for a cool FOUR years".

Aside from that I have no idea how they could allow an unproven entity to exert leverage over our joke of an organization.

MacT shat the bed with this one.

Thing is as Well Eakins only made playoffs twice in 4 years in the AHL 0 times in 3 years as a Leaf assistant. One thing 1 did not realize is Eakins is 3rd in NHL for longest Games with out ever scoring a goal in his career 120 go 0 goals. Might explain why our pp is putrid guy know's nothing about offence if you think about it know one in management down through coaching staff does.
