It's not that bad come on. I actually think zboril and vaak surprise big time.

McAvoy must be licking his chops. That D will increase his asking price by $2-2.5mil on his next contract if he wants to get paid only or he will ask to be traded if he wants to win the cup and sees no future here. Having a revolving door of a D partner as Krejci had on his wings since Lucic/Horton days? McAvoy says "F**k no, I am off".

Not sure if Charlie will be licking his chops or not, but I'm betting Lou will be salivating over the idea of Charlie and the Bruins not coming to terms

Alright ya'll are being a little harsh at this point. Calling Gryz and Reilly junk is ridiculous. They both average .5 ppg and come at less cost and near production as Krug. Clifton is a damn good defensemen as well. The jury is still out on Forbort but I think the logic is to switch him and Gryz when games tighten up. Let's see how it plays out before passing judgement...the group may compliment themselves better than most think.

I would still like to add Erik Gudbranson to replace some of Miller's toughness...seems like Forbort replaced Lauzon but still feel like we haven't addressed those Tinordi/Miller roles with no in-house option there.

Clifton is actually junk. I was more kidding about gryz and Reilly but I’d rather not have gryz as top pairing and Reilly as 2nd pairing. We really need a legit top pairing LHD and those two to be dropped down a line.

Just a feeling. Zboril especially I thought he played well last year in the games he played

He played good in the 10 game stretch to begin the year. Real impressive stuff. Then as the season progressed, I was clenching my buttox any time he had the puck, and then post deadline, the game or 2 he got he was solid.

I hope he does good obviously, but I sense a little bit of Joe Morrow syndrome where the best thing Jaffe and crew will say about him when he's dressed for a game is "Well he always does good in his first game back."

After losing Miller, Lauzon, Ritchie.........I fear we are way too soft. Foligno can handle himself, especially against the middle weights but thats it! Frederic showed he'll bang with Wilson but what about Reeves? Maroon? Johnson from NYI? Outside of Wilson, none of these guys can play hockey but when they're taking cheap shots at McAvoy, Pasta, Marshy, Bergy, etc...........we'll be in trouble.

I'd like Gudbranson as a 6-7-8th type of insurance policy!

After just reviewing our contracts for this year and next.......how the hell do we re-up McAvoy?
1. Let Bergy walk or hope he takes the biggest hometown discount in history
2. Trade Ullmark if Swayman is the guy
3. Trade Debrusk this season for a pick(3.75 off the cap right to Charlie)
4. Move Gryz

He has a full NMC in year one and two of his contract and a modified NTC the last two years. If Swayman outplays him, get used to the idea of a $5m backup. Sweenius!

Yeah and if Carlo’s play deteriorates because of brain trauma then we are stuck with a $4 mill bottom pairing defenseman long term. We can play hypotheticals with every signing like that. We can pretend the worst possible outcome will happen so we can take jabs at Sweeney

You gotta pay good players money to get them or keep them. They did so to acquire Ullmark and I have no issues with it

I don’t hate the Ullmark deal. I see the sense in it. But I still can’t decide if I’d rather have seen what a Vladar/Swaymann tandem could have done.

Would have saved lots of cap, but I also realize that the risk/consequence in destroying the development curves of two “rookie” goalies on a team trying to compete is very high.

The bruins players aren’t junk, particularly the defense, the issue is that’s not enough. We’re trying to win a cup, not compete for 4th place.

My question is what realistic plays could Sweeney have made this summer that could have changed things and made us a true contender. I’m not speaking as a proponent or opponent of past deals or their consequences, but I’m curious as to given how the market unfolded what else could have been done. How many other ways could we have revamped the defense through FA? The Forbert singing surprised me, as did the term and money, but what other choices did he have to fill that roster spot?

Unless a franchise is fully committed to a rebuild, I think every GM has pretty muxh the same mission: to ice the best possible team to compete for the upcoming year. Obviously this is balanced with long term implications as well. So if fans (as is expected) are adamant that we compete for a cup this year, and if losing DK was a given, what else was DS to do?

I agree with you that the extreme reactions aren’t really valuable viewpoints, but I also think that it’s only realistic that almost every fanbase has the same “not enough” viewpoint on their team. There is only so much talent at the right price to go around. Rosters generally have to be filled in with question mark players and contracts that aren’t pleasing to the eye. I’ve been waiting for this to change since I started watching pro sports 30 years ago and I’m starting to think it’s not changing

Just ridiculous shit being posted in here.

If I had to number them:

Grzelcyk — McAvoy
Reilly — Carlo
Forbort — Clifton
Moore/Zboril
Vaakanainen

#4/5 — #1
#4/5 — #3
#5 — #6
#6 — #6/7
AHL call up

They really just need that #2 which would push everyone down I’d use Grzelcyk+ to try and acquire him. I don’t think Sweeney/co. thinks they need an LD upgrade though.

So we have a defensive core that will play well in the regular season but once again, not be enough when it matters.
