Mr. Make-Believe

The happy genius of my household
That's simply not the number . Top 10 Dmen in the league are all around 9 or less, how does Mac command more? If we take of the Black and Gold glasses we realize there are better Dmen than Mac and they aren't making 12.5M.

No I don't trade, I just don't overpay.
That wasn’t the hypothetical though.

I agree it won’t be that number. I can easily see it being north of 10 however.

You’re obviously drawing a line somewhere though. “Over this amount - trade him” because you won’t overpay.

Where is your line?

They also signed their deals before McAvoy.
True, but the value has not increased that much for the future star defenseman. The Cap sure has not increased and we do not know when and for how much when it does happen.

You cannot survive as a team on speculation alone.

Cap hasn’t gone up in a few years though. That’s not speculation to say it’s going to go up eventually. It should go up pretty much every year if you have a good product. Problem is the pandemic really screwed up. When things correct, 12.5M may look like a steak down the road and 9-10M may have highway robbery.

With the way the farm looks and what the bruins are seemingly trying to do in the short term, you give Mac what he wants.

8 years @ whatever AAV.

I doubt he wants to be the highest paid guy in the league but you pay the kid.

If we have to replace a Foligno or John Moore or Forbort or Reilly with a young kid then it is what it is.

Draft better.

Hmmmm looks like we are our own worst critic. But but, our d is too soft!!!

I have a hard time equating regular season stats with playoff expectations. Like, there’s been plenty of pres trophy winners I wouldn’t have put a nickel on to win the cup.

I think it’s a fair critique of that group that they could use more both size and skill. I don’t buy for one second that they were the best D group in the league even of the fancy numbers say so

I really don't see over 10M. I see something between 8 and 9.5.
Put me down for 8.5.
Don't really see it coming to lines in the sand but if you must have a number
anything over 10 and he's gone for me.

That’s frightening there’s fans that would move him like that if it’s something over 10m, which he could easily get.

22 goals allowed in 6 games vs the isles

4 empty net goals between games 4 and 6 I believe, so a tad inflated.

But yeah, hate to put so much pressure on the goaltending and D, but a deep run is so much more achievable if the GAA is less than 2.5 come playoff time.

It says they were 5th best in shots allowed and 3rd best in expected goals against, in the playoffs.

Missed the playoff part sorry.

Doesn’t change the eye test. The got mauled.

Vigorously.

As a whole the group lacks an identity. They aren’t particularly skilled, tenacious or large. They do skate nice for the most part.

Outside of McAvoy that is.

It’s like they took the Heinen template of blandness and copied it to make defenders.

It would be difficult to prove but I lean towards Boston’s forwards being very conscientious defensively which covers a lot of warts on the backend.

I hear you on the forwards. Its a 5 man unit. Don't feel you on the Heinen bit. Gryz and Reilly are skilled at moving the puck. This is important. I know we all wish Carlo was part McQuaid, but he is still a very effective defenseman. Pelech and Pulock were not running around going Adam McQuaid all over the Bruins. They were defending with size and reach. Carlo getting hurt and the Bruins PK falling apart is what they lost the series. But, guess what? Boychuk and McQuaid types get hurt, too!

I doubt it he is not the second coming of Mr Orr, Paul Coffey or Nick Lidstrom.

8 or 8.5 is an appropriate number for him, otherwise do what has to be done.
