And then who is the 2nd goalie?
I’m pretty sure no one else would be worse than he’s been (here, not necessarily on any team in the league) this year.

And in my hypothetical scenario, Vitek is called back up in a week or two and Schmid plays every game in between.

Think of it like when the Ducks waived Adam Henrique in 2021 and called him back up shortly after.

I don’t even think Henrique went on to play a single game in the minors and may not have even reported. I think it was done to get Henrique’s attention, who was playing poorly to start that year.

Goal 2 was a breakaway and goals 3 and 4 were bad/weird bounces. Goal 1 you wish he didn't move his glove out of the way but it was also a cross-ice slap shot on the PP.
Yeah I agree. Like I'm pretty harsh on Vanecek but maybe you hope for a stop on the Barzal breakaway but goal 3 was pretty weird. Maybe better positioning? The PP goal is probably the worst one but that pass across can't happen.

I hate the excuse that the guys in front didn't play well since I'm a proponent of goalies need to make difficult saves at times, but I think they definitely gave up some pretty tough luck goals tonight. I dunno if I fault Vitek, and I'm nothing close to a Vanecek apologist.

I don’t discount Hischier tapping that rebound home on the tying goal. I know it’s a layup but that is also a puck that is a bit on edge and also in on his hands a bit. Could have easily muffed it and given a chance for an NYI defender to swipe it out of danger.

Lazar is a winning player. I am still annoyed Lindy sat him during some playoff games. He should be a 4th line staple.

He’s the type of guy who is in the bottom 6 of winning Cup teams, and when you look back you’re like, “hey that guy was pretty good, wait he was on their fourth line? No wonder they won.”

Just a solid role player, one of the best for his role.

IDGAF about NYR or CAR. The 3rd seed in the division is 100% achievable against WASH PITT NYI and PHI.

Continue working on their and GET A GOALIE

McLeod, man.

I can't believe he's not only a player but on track to be one of our better role players in years.
He's becoming a core player.

I wanted to sign him to a 5 year this offseason. He's probably not going to score enough to earn a big contract, but he is definitely going to cost more then he would have.

So running Shmid with no back up for 2 weeks? Great plan.

According to naturalstattrick at all situations

Sorokin 1.96 more goals allowed than expected, or 0.65 per period

Vanacek 1.56 more goals allowed than expected, or 0.78 per period.

——————

Sorokin, by the numbers that some people really believe in, was not that much better than Vanacek tonight but you’d be wildly surprised to see that if you were reading this thread tonight.

Vanacek wasn’t good but Sorokin wasn’t all that good either.

Who cares? Vitek is just as over here as Cory was after 2018, it’s never going to happen for him again. Not only is he legit bad but the puck doesn’t even hit him when he’s in the right spot.
Vitek is as over here as Cory was in 2019 or even 2020 before he got bought out.

Even Cory had that weird market correction stretch in the 2019 part of the 18-19 season and world championships that bought him another year here. That brought him up over .900% for the season by year’s end.

I can’t see Vitek having 20 games of .920% goaltending or even .912%-.914% goaltending (that’s probably the equivalent with the decline in league average save percentage since that season) ever again on this team.

I wonder if he can even have more than 5 games of .912% + goaltending here again? Maybe 5-6 games, but he hasn’t had a single 1 goal against game or god forbid shutout since late last season.

Again, I think he can keep his career going and have success again, it just won’t happen here.
