So that is what we are doing right now? Arguing about Ruff's lineup decision from a playoff game we won 7 months ago?
I was mostly challenging the assertion he was bad last year. Injured yes, but he never really got run either (in part because of it and in part cause we had more options).

But this is funny coming from you, you're the king of playing devils' advocate ALL...THE...TIME. Seriously dude, it's older than Vitek giving up bad goals.

So running Shmid with no back up for 2 weeks? Great plan.
We have two sets of back to backs in the next two weeks.

Play Schmid both games of this back to back and call Vitek back up for the Canada trip and play him on the Flames/Oilers back to back.

Thats only a potential 5 starts in a row for Schmid. Maybe only 4 if you don’t give him the first half of that second back to back.

Regardless, they need to really think about giving Schmid those games anyway and letting Vitek sit for 1.5 weeks. They had no problem doing that to Schmid. He was going to sit for close to 2 weeks if Vitek hadn’t blown up in that Capitals game. Because there was no game in between the Capitals and Jets game for 3 whole days. And that was after the good game he played in St. Louis.

I guess you can give Vitek the San Jose game. He’s played so horrible that he’s due for a 1 goal against game or even another 2 goal against game just on complete accident/the law of averages.

f***ing injuries are stacking up again. Frustrating

defending the goalie with an .870 SV%
No excuses. As I posted before:

Blackwood has a .900 save % on a trash team
Merzlinkins has a .905 save % on a trash team
Gibson has a .911 save % on a trash team
Korpisalo has a .902 save % on a trash team
All 3 Habs goalies have a .900+ save % on a trash team

I'd honestly play Smith at wing when/if Nosek is healthy too.

Toffoli-Hughes-Mercer
Meier-Hischier-Bratt
Palat-Haula-Holtz
Smith-McLeod-Nosek

Get Tierney the f*** off this team and have Bastian be the 13th forward.
That decision is coming - Smith on D or on wing - if Hamilton can’t play on Thursday.

I’ve really liked Smith on wing these past 2 games. The hit on Lee and the fight turned this game around, along with Jack’s shift where he scored to get us within a goal after 5 minutes in the last period.

Schmid has the longest leash in the world, idc. Vitek has been downright ass cheeks this year. He'd go on waivers right now and probably go unclaimed especially with the 3.4M price tag

More than one thing can be true though...the defense HAS been bad this year. Funny how the guy all of us (including me) want to see in net has numbers almost as bad and yet the defense never gets stick because they draft behind the shitty starting goalie in terms of ire.

Goal 2 was a breakaway and goals 3 and 4 were bad/weird bounces. Goal 1 you wish he didn't move his glove out of the way but it was also a cross-ice slap shot on the PP.
Great

How about the other 43 goals he’s allowed this year?

This game is more in line with a normal game from him this year than some outlier.

Hope Hamilton isn’t out for long. He isn’t good defensively but he brings the heat from the point and juices the offense.

Nemec is great but he can only replace so much of that.

I dont wanna hear "BUT THE DEFENSE IN FRONT OF HIM!!!!"

I think you guys need to watch other teams more. Every team has a lot of defensive breakdowns every game. I see it with my eyes. The advanced stats also bear that out.

Vanecek has been a bottom 3 goalie in the league this year. With or without the D breakdowns

I said the same thing earlier on the lines of Sorokin making some saves in the early 3rd and it somehow got misconstrued as me comparing Vanecek to Sorokin, lol. Watch out

You still need a backup.

And if you're saying, roll Schmid as the #1, with Vitek as backup, until further notice. I'm fine with that.

Putting Vitek on waivers is just board lunacy.

They need to make a trade for an NHL goalie. Vitek is done.

These injuries suck(who are the trainers/health crew?) but best to get them outta the way now vs after the ASG.

Which is weird. Because everybody knows Sorokin is better than Vanecek.

Everybody knows Sorokin is better than most of the goalies in the league.

That doesn’t mean he doesn’t lose a decent amount of games this year to inferior goalies, for the fact that his team isn’t very good.

That doesn’t mean he hasn’t lost to a lot of inferior goalies since he came into the league, simply for the fact that his team isn’t very good.

He lost to Raanta in the playoffs last year (I can’t remember if Andersen was in by the series clinching game) and everybody knows he’s better than Raanta.

Hey, Shesterkin lost to Schmid and went 1-4 in the games he had to play him last year. We know Schmid isn’t better than Shesterkin, but better goalies lose games to lesser goalies all the time and even playoff series’ to them as well.

We have next to no chance with Vitek doing that anymore.

We had to play as close to perfect as we could against Buffalo just for him to allow 2 goals and he still wound up stopping a lesser rate of shots than one of the Buffalo goalies did in that game.

And then what happened later in the 3rd?

We actually lost the NST xGF battle tonight.
The defense and goaltending have been bad but Vitek's got to make a save somewhere. He's just not making enough saves on A-grade chances. Tonight he got some tough breaks, the first one is the only one I can really fault him on, but he also just never seems to stop breakaways.
I don't disagree, it's hand in hand.

I'm really arguing against the idea that the team is playing well but is being dragged down by poor goal tending. We continue to play sloppy as shit leaving the goalies on an island.
