GDT: Your New Jersey Devils vs. New York Islanders, 7 PM, MSGSN/MSGSN2

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server

So, I don't want to jinx it, but if Dougie is out...

Is it time...?

I dare the organization to put Vanecek on waivers tomorrow.

“Thats too dangerous! Someone will claim him like they did Wedgewood!”

I doubt it. He has one more year left after this at over $3 million. And the bad teams have goalies that have played better than him this year.

And the good ones also either do or they’re too capped out.

If this was the final year of his deal someone may claim him, but it isn’t. And even then, his salary/cap hit is a bit much, unlike Wedgewood who was on damn near a minimum wage deal.

I would waive him as a wake up call. If that doesn’t wake him up (doubt it will) then he’s a lost cause.

I already think he’s a lost cause here. The only thing that will shake him from this is going to another team.

This may have been what was needed to end it.

If we lost this game in OT or at all, he probably goes right back in as much as he’s playing.

Even if we lost without Akira allowing a single goal, we may have still went back to making Vitek happen.
This legit reminded me of the Caps comeback last year, a game that was needed to get Schmid a chance

I’ll be completely honest. I never in a million years thought they would get four on Sorokin to tie, let alone five to win. Especially when you were down a pair. Even after they got to within one I thought he was going to slam the door. And after flipping to TOR-FLA after fourth goal I planned on staying there. But ended up coming back for the start of the third. Now back on that game for OT and now SO.

Didn’t we just get five on him a few weeks ago? Granted four were on the PP

Seriously, I think Jake Allen would enjoy hanging out with Marty again.
I don’t even think he’s a better goalie than Vitek, but I’m beyond confident that Vitek is so fried and done here that he’d instantly be better behind Montreal (a far worse team) and Allen would be much better than Vitek has been here this year.

Vitek is no longer redeemable here. The playoffs last year broke him here. Probably not permanently, but permanently here they sure did.

I’m not convinced Jon Gillies would play much worse behind this team right now than Vitek.
