I dare the organization to put Vanecek on waivers tomorrow.

“Thats too dangerous! Someone will claim him like they did Wedgewood!”

I doubt it. He has one more year left after this at over $3 million. And the bad teams have goalies that have played better than him this year.

And the good ones also either do or they’re too capped out.

If this was the final year of his deal someone may claim him, but it isn’t. And even then, his salary/cap hit is a bit much, unlike Wedgewood who was on damn near a minimum wage deal.

I would waive him as a wake up call. If that doesn’t wake him up (doubt it will) then he’s a lost cause.

I already think he’s a lost cause here. The only thing that will shake him from this is going to another team.
Just wait until he gives up 5 to the Sharks on Friday.

And then who is the 2nd goalie?

I don’t even think he’s a better goalie than Vitek, but I’m beyond confident that Vitek is so fried and done here that he’d instantly be better behind Montreal (a far worse team) and Allen would be much better than Vitek has been here this year.

Vitek is no longer redeemable here. The playoffs last year broke him here. Probably not permanently, but permanently here they sure did.

I’m not convinced Jon Gillies would play much worse behind this team right now than Vitek.

Yea I’ve said before Allen seems like a guy who’s seen it all. Especially coming from a rebuilder like Montreal where you see a ton of rubber. I sense he’s matured a ton since he left STL and has a pretty steady headspace. Could be totally off base though.

Also, Holtz is a stud.

As a I said, we’ll be fine.
Holtz's play off the puck has been very good and his compete is way up. If he can take another step he's gonna be very good for us. Really impressive year he's putting together after a middling start. I'm happy since I've been a Holtz truther since the draft

The Islanders aren't good defensively anymore, it's one of the myths about the team that persists. They're not running Barry Trotz's system with a bunch of 29 year old forwards, now it's Lambert's system with 33 year old forwards.

But boy it looked like the Devils were absolutely dead in the water with 5 minutes gone in the third. That's what a superstar player can do.

Goal 2 was a breakaway and goals 3 and 4 were bad/weird bounces. Goal 1 you wish he didn't move his glove out of the way but it was also a cross-ice slap shot on the PP.

And Blackwood makes people pine for his return.

I think Vitek misses Blackwood more than anyone. His toppling over here seems to coincide with the point when Blackwood was no longer a threat to get more games than him.

Which seemed to be around January (new years day to be specific) when they gave Blackwood the Carolina game that happened I think 3 games after Blackwood had an identical game to tonight’s game against Boston right before Christmas.

Vitek had an amazing January and hasn’t been the same since all star break, but has really taken a turn for the absolute worst since game 1 of the playoffs.

And it’s funny that when Vitek stunk it up in the playoffs, Blackwood was no longer a threat to take games from him, as Schmid had jumped over him in the regular season finale.
