After facing 15 shots? Sure, "Marky would probably like that one back" would be appropriate.

It's not like he got shelled. He didn't have to do shit.
So on 15 shots with an expected goals of 1.7 you expect goalies to give up 0?

Most hockey games should have like 2-3 goals total by this standard.

I'm lukewarm on Marckstrom but this is complete overreaction to blame him.

Leafs are a good team that got lucky on a fluke goal, and then lucky on a bad line shift that gave Austin Matthews a partial breakaway goal.

I realize they did nothing the whole game - but they have the offensive talent to take advantages that are given to them. Stolarz gave them the opportunity.

Also - Let us not provide the salty tears for other fanbases.
The frustration with Markstrom is goals like that have been a frequent occurrence even in wins.

Garbage performance. Excuses excuses; good teams figure out a way to get 2 points. Markstrom goofed up but you can't put all the blame on him with this amount of talent on the ice.

And they still suck at home.

In terrible past seasons, when we were a bad team, we occasionally won games like this vs better teams. It didn’t mean a whole lot.

We’ve got flaws that contributed here. Our 3rd line kind of sucks. We don’t have much scoring beyond the big guns. Meier needs to get going. Markstrom makes us sad a lot.

And yes, winning a game when we score fewer than 3 goals would be nice too.

We still played really well. That’s not an excuse. I’ve seen a lot of bad hockey played by the Devils in recent (and not so recent) seasons and that’s not what happened tonight.

I mean this kind of game happens all the time around the league. Shit I swear it happens several times a year to really good teams like Vegas and Carolina.

What’s weird with the devils is how predictable certain outcomes have become in specific circumstances.

It's probably sampling bias. We pay way more attention to this team then other teams

I expect a goalie to bail out the team once in a while when the team is struggling to score and when they give the goalie a pretty easy game all things considered. Makrstrom has done that how many times this year? Even Blackwood stole a 1-0 game for his team against us. 15 saves was the ask.

Stolarz with 3.38 GSAx tonight and we're supposed to feel back about Markstrom's -0.3? Stolarz didn't get goal support but he stole it for his club.

Carolina just had one of those games a few weeks ago where they outshot Utah like 50 to 20 something and lost 4-1. Hockey is a weird sport sometimes.

We lose this game in regulation if Marky doesn't make big saves when it was still 0-0.

I would try Cotter with 63 and 86 and put Palat on the 3rd line. f*** it.
Why the f*** not at this point?

Palat to the 4th but yes. This isn't a hard fix. It's been obvious it should happen for forever.

Why is Hamilton not getting any black tonight? That backcheck on the game tying goal was bad. Atleast Pesce almost had Matthews. Hamilton got outskated and outmuscled. Guy is soft and pretty weak for his size.

All year it was “if we just got average goaltending” and yet this game the Devils got it and the pitchforks are still out for the goalie.

It’s stupid. Markstrom was fine and the refrain is “He wasn’t perfect so he was garbage” when he was the average people clamored for.
