We both hate the trade it seems. Both are salary cap dumps no one wins.
I think I like it getting rid of Darcy who is a backup goalie. We add a young center to help a place of need and get rid for dead cap in backup goalie.

PLD will get 70pts easily in Washington as he will be their #1C and will be on the #1 PP unit. Im sure Pierre is happy to hear the news as I know he was a miserable player playing on the Kings 4th line for the last half of last year. And rumour was, he was not liked by the rest of the players in the Kings locker room.

The big question is, will he be happy long term in Washington? How long before he quits on another team and demands another trade?
PLD will likely be a total f#ck up, as he has demonstrated team after team. If Buff had been in Winnipeg at the time, more than PLD’s clothes would have been thrown in the shower…kid has a shit show attitude.

LA wins big-time here less cost and less term.

PLD will probably score 60ish points some years and have Caps fans excited once in a while then have bumps and keep them in the middling middle while their core ages out fast.

And he took back a medium term, bad contract back.

Kuemper still has 3 years left at $5.25 million.
That's nothing compared to PLD.

Kings got robbed in a vacuum when you include last summer but 1 for 1 I would be very happy if I was a kings fan.

Goalies are also weird. Have a few down seasons then all of a sudden turn it back on again. Kuemper has proven to be a solid goalie in the past. Maybe with LA he returns to form. Worst case he doesn't and it's still a W for the kings.

Wouldn't be surprised if MTL is at least interested or talking to WSH if he'd come at a discount
If Washington retains (in term of a discount) then the Habs are going to need to give up like NJ did for Markstrom.

None of this Harris package stuff some people spout off on these boards.

Don’t be fooled by his point totals, his impact is negligent and I’d even argue a negative due to his lack of all around game/impact on the game.

Oh I agree with you but some are going to try and pump it up but man having Strome, PLD as your 1,2 punch down the middle.....yikes.

Depends how much. For 1-2M, I think PLD value is still low. He was dumped for another cap dump. Highly doubt he'd return similar to what markstrom got.

Honestly, I can't see the Caps as a place where PLD finds himself. It's possible though. Huge risk, but at least 3 of the years are kind of offset. They must really love the player, and have a plan to deploy him, but we'll see. Either way, the Kings are celebrating a boondoggle. They may have dodged a bullet, but they already have wasted a few of their own on him. If PLD somehow rocks out, they will look like the ultimate fools.

Let's think here. The reason you're getting rid of a BAD goalie contract, is because your club is taking a BAD player contract in for 7 more years. This guy is a barely skating red flag, that's why you got him for a cap dump.

Hard to say but then again the Habs are only going to make a ply for him if he's a 60ish point center and looks better than he did in LA and thus carry more value.

NJ gave up that package for only 2 years of Marstrom anyways so any potential Habs/Caps deal with the caps retaining is going to be in the neighborhood of the NJ deal one would think as the Cap will be going up as well in future years.

Why people thinks Caps totally lost this?

Of course this is a gamble. But in Caps, besides Dylan Strome as a top 6 C, there is no one after that (TBH, McMichael is NOT a top 6).

So, Spot 2C is locked for him. He can push 1C spot (Dylan Strome is easier to oust than Scheifele, Kopitar and Danault). So, I don't think Caps are total lost in this trade.

Plus, Kuemper is getting useless day by day... so, good trade for Caps too.

I probably wouldn't have done this for Washington, but I also think it makes more sense for them than basically any other team in the league.

They are in "win now" mode. They have to be at this point. They have 2-3 years MAYBE where they can do anything, and then they are going to be a not great team. I'd argue the end of PLD's deal is not as big a detriment to them as it would be for most teams. What Washington is doing is essentially buying a lottery ticket to "PLD will bounce back". It's a potentially high reward move and that's why they are doing it. And the team isn't significantly hurt if it doesn't work out in the short term because Kuemper was also dead cap for them.

People think Caps lost this because PLD has a longer more expensive contract.
You will hate watching him play. He never hustles or engages in board battles.
He doesnt even get into a hockey position he just stands upright and floats around until its long enough to be considered a full shift so he can come off.
Dont think I have seen a worse display of laziness from a pro athlete in my whole life. He has a lot of talent and size but the guy just doesnt want to play hockey.
