From a Caps perspective it's about buying low. I think PLD played OK at the Worlds, maybe they figure, hey we can get ourselves a potential top 6 centre while ridding ourselves of our overpaid washed up goalie. High risk high reward.

There is no doubt in my mind that Dubois needs motivation. He's not entirely innocent but there are usage/management issues connected to his journey all the way from when he asked out of Columbus.

When he is on and playing with talent, he is very good. So why did the Kings trade good assets and sign him to $8.5M but then play him 3C spreading out their talent? Makes no sense. He's not the type to lead a line by himself.

I remember when the Kings first traded for him. I was wondering about the possibility of them moving him to wing to play as a power forward winger type. Totally surprised they played a $8.5M center at 3C. Some will say he started higher and was moved down when he didn't play well. OK, as a coach, do you think that will get him motivated?

$8.5M and you play him 15 min's a game? Come on man.
What else is needed?

You do realize it is June 19th already and the next game isn't until the 21st right? Very small window before UFA and draft happens. Maybe teams wait if the Cup is over by the 10th or something, but not when there is less than 2 weeks to do stuff before the new seasons contracts, etc, start. Trading during the Finals being an issue is really a fan made up thing.

This wouldn't be an issue if the league didn't wait a full week to start the final. I understand why they waited but it's still their fault for not giving teams much time to deal before the draft and free agency.

I think PLD puts up decent numbers in WASH. My biggest issue with PLD in LA wasn't just the poor offensive output, but it was the lazy play, the undisciplined penalties, and the give aways.

The league has obviously lost control of ‘do not do things before the finals end’ thing. Maybe don’t give the rest of the league like 20 minutes to do their entire offseason.
Or do drag out the playoffs how badly they do. A week off before the finals. Bruins leafs would have three days off between games to line up saturdays. I get viewership is important but it needs to go back to every other day

I don’t care if he becomes successful on the caps (highly doubt it) he was given chance after chance. He played on every line and every position. The amount of f***s this guy gave

LAK fans have to be happy right now.

Happier than with PLD in the line up but the squandering of assets to get that trainwreck and sign him is still a tough pill to swallow. But yeah, I'll take it! I don't see one person unhappy with the trade (in a vacuum) on the Kings board. I've never seen a player with so much potential play with so little heart. It's pretty friggin pathetic to be honest.

Wow! Kings paid a reverse ransom!

Capitals are idiots. Maybe they are going to acquire Laine too, then sign Puljujarvi

… a page out of the Panthers master plan book!

Did you mean a 6th center? They cant run that many lines so I'm not sure they need a 6th. Is he for Hershey?

It's going to be a usage thing. Going from 15 min's a game to 20 with the Caps. 3C vs 1C usage.

When he played with Connor while the Jets were trying to convince him to stay, he was pt/game.

People laughed at the Dylan Strome acquisition as well and he seems to be doing more than fine.

Honestly the dude seems to be in love with himself so being known as the one who helped Ovechkin break Gretzky's record might actually motivate him.

Honestly? I kinda like this trade for the Caps. PLD’s got a big contract, sure, but he also has real upside for a team that can afford that gamble. At the tail end of Ovi’s career, a motivated PLD might help maximize what the franchise can do while 8’s still around, and his contract won’t hurt when the inevitable post-Ovi rebuild happens anyway. And they offloaded $5.25x3 the other way, too.

I’m amazed anyone would want that contract.

That's because a lot of you don't understand usage and you fall for the gullible hate bandwagon parties. Paying a guy $8.5M and then 3C/15 min a game. Think about it. Caps need a center and he will get high usage.

He was a pt/game player with Connor and he was good with team Canada at the past WC's.

Kings were dumb signing him to $8.5M and then playing him 3C/15 min a game. Dubois deserves some heat yes but why are the Kings management getting a pass on this?
