FL played us harder than anyone else.

Great coach...great team.

FL>>>>>>>>caps

Except in your reality teams are contenders based on the criteria of "I think you got a sick roster bruh" and not what they actually do with it.

St. Louis, Montreal are nowhere near as pretty on paper as Colorado, Florida, Carolina but both got more done

Trotz taking the Islanders to back to back ECF tells me you are wrong.
But that's only my opinion. It means nothing.
Trotz was obviously pressing all the right buttons finally.
You don't wish he had another chance at a repeat?
I understand why you don't want to give him any credit.
You'd have to admit you made a huge mistake in letting him go.
I only see excuses ftrom Caps fans..it was time...blah blah blah.
HUGE mistake.

This... isn't related to anything I posted? Are you sure you quoted the right post?

If you want to turn things into a "Should the Caps have kept Berry Trotse???" conversation, lololol you should see the never-ending/never-changing argument about that on the Caps board. Seriously, there's enough there to keep you busy until next season (but IMO nothing worth going over for the millionth time ever again).

Again, have fun one and done.

Do you get a banner for most individual goals?

I'm sure there will be cool t shirts. Get me one.

No they really don't.

Sorry. It's only my opinion but your window shut the day you let Trotz leave.

Montreal was a cinderella story. Losing record. They won't even make the playoffs this year.
Trotz has become the most overrated coach in the nhl. It's really just gotten out of control

I’m a lifelong Oiler fan and Gretzky fan and was able to watch Gretzky break Howe’s goal scoring record but now I’m cheering for Ovi to break Gretzky’s goal scoring record. Nobody thought Howe’s record would be broken then Gretzky came and no one thought Gretzky’s record would be broken and now Ovi is knocking on that door.

It's a once in a century achievement. Meanwhile Tampa won 2 cups in 10 months and most of the hockey world is laughing at you cap circumventing clowns

My new shirt arrived today.

Go Ovi!

The Caps are likely done as premiere contenders, but still could go on a miracle run.
Ovechkin has a real chance at breaking the record.

Yes, it is huge money, but it is worth it from a business point of view. Ovechkin chasing the record will keep people in the stands and buying merch. It is well-worth the 9.5M a year, even if you decrease your chances at another Cup.
Interesting way of looking at it..... I can't say you're wrong

Great coach...great team.

FL>>>>>>>>caps

I'd love to play you again in the playoffs but you'll never make it out of your division.
How can you call yourself a realist then in the next sentence claim Florida is >>>>>>>> Caps?

Your cup team was dominant...especially in the playoffs.

Since Trotz left you seem to have lost that edge.

JMHO. More pretender than contender.

IMO Trotz was by far the biggest loss. That should go down in hockey lore as on of the stupidest moves ever - win a cup and send your coach to a division rival. Ugh.

The roster isn't all that different. Connolly and Beagle and Burakovsky are gone. Holtby was falling apart anyway. But in the interim they chose to sign Dillon ($4M) and Panik ($2.75M) but neither was a good fit.

And this is why you are no longer relevant.

Your owner felt the same way.
So if trotz doesn't win the cup in 18 how does your opinion change? Take away the cup and he becomes Bruce Boudreau with more games under his belt. The only mistake the caps made was going with Reardon. Trotz has won the same amount of cups as the caps since they parted ways and he won't win one with the islanders without aquiring/drafting more high end talent. Trotz built plenty of identical workman like teams in Nashville that couldn't get over the hump because you need the high end talent to win

It's a Age 35+ contract too. So cap hit counts in full no matter what happens with Ovechkin the next five seasons.
That's the killer. You would think he would have the courtesy to do 5 one year deals so God forbid the wheels fall off its not a death sentence to the franchise.

He won. He had the Caps firing on all cylinders.

What more can I say...hell...how do you not want that guy back at that moment in time.

He finally pushed through and damn...you guys were playing on another level than everyone else.

Do you disagree? I mean it really puts you in a rock and a hardplace. You have demean your own team to validate losing Trotz.

Just be honest and say it was dumb. I'd have more respect for you.

Didn’t even need to do one year deals. A five year deal with $9.5m each season and no signing bonuses after year 1 would not carry a penalty if Ovi retired. And the contract would still be fully guaranteed.
