In what particular situation would Jersey pay?
The whole idea is that the Habs want Slafkovsky right?
So are you telling me you really want Slafkovsky but if I'm giving you a fourth-rounder in 3 years you suddenly don't want Slafkovsky anymore? Yeah, come on...
Why don't you just draft Slafkovsky if you want Slafkovsky then?
He hasn't since the source was people around the league. It was a a speculation Lebrun's heard...and it's getting all twisted at this point.
And I really doubt it is happening after Hughes said in a recent interview that he prefer choosing 1st than getting the leftovers at 2-4.
I was saying that maybe the thought behind the rumors were seeing were that the Habs wouldn't mind picking either Slaf or Wright, but they know Jersey only wants Slafkovsky....soooo if they Jersey is convinced they're going to draft him, maybe the Habs would try to squeeze something out of them to swap while they end up picking Wight 2nd.
It was just a thought, not saying it will happen or even that the Devils would do it.

Also Wright isn't a terrible player IMO so its not a huge must to get Slafkovsky. This isn't the Kane draft where the drop off from 1OA is JVR
Thought Bahl might work cause he's our 5th best prospect (could argue others but he's more of a sure thing). He may not be a Shiny top line defensemen but He fills a niche with being 6,6 and good skater +Defender. Does Every team need a Nikita Zadorov? no. Does most teams wish they had a player like him? probably.
The only reason he is tradeable is because Mukhamadulin does everything better then Bahl except hitting.
I guess there is Nolan Foote but you guys seem to prize Skating and well.... >.>
Anyways... such a trade is probably fantasy anyway.
-Edit- another 3rd round pick isn't nothing. obviously the Habs gm is going to want to bundle them to move up in the draft so getting another pick isn't that bad.

You asked why the Devils would do that or why Hugo would entertain it...I advanced a hypothesis.

It's the 37th pick. The Devils would be better off with Slafkovsky in their team construction, so sacrificing whatever % of chance the 37th ends up as anything other than a fringe NHLer should be worth it to secure the kind of player they want.
Getting the right guy at this level is crucial for the future core of the NJ team. The 37th pick is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things, its value is several orders of magnitude lesser than getting Slaf, as opposed to a glut of centers with Wright.
It makes sense but I feel that the difference between the 2nd rounder and the 3rd rounder is how bad the optics would be for the NJ GM.
"New GM Hughes does a Shakedown of Fitzgerald managing to get their 2nd round pick and still getting Wright!"

"Fitzgerald gives up a 3rd and a unique prospect to new Habs GM in order to take their guy 1OA"
Such a trade only happens if both GM's come out winners and Hughes comes out looking good in either scenario becuase he gets something out of nothing.

I understand if NJ refuses. I would then select Juraj Slafkovsky 1st overall and they'll realize I meant it, and they'll have passed on getting EXACTLY the kind of player they needed for their rebuild, in a draft they had no business being so high in already, to save a 37th pick. Too bad.
You answered something completely unrelated.
I also never said New Jersey had anything to gain by doing this, frankly I don't think it makes much sense.

Eh, The Downside isn't to bad. NJ gets Wright and has a 5+ window to win the cup by imitating the 2009 championship pengiuns build of Crosby/Malkin/Staal with Hughes/Hischier/Wright.
Not saying the Devils trio is equal to Crosby and Malkin. I think the Devils team would have more depth then the 2009 penguins
the 5 year window is like staal I'm guessing Hishier or Wright would want to go somewhere else to be big dog instead of the 3rd line Center

All true. Good luck to both teams. Montreal is in great shape to get a strong center in next year's draft, and Slafkovsky is an ideal linemate for Suzuki and Caufield.
Seems like everyone will get away from this in good shape.

I'm hoping next year we get an NHL goalie so we don't have to deal with this again. Getting 2OA is great and all but at this point in the rebuild its sour grapes.
Hope you guys don't have such a prolonged rebuild as the Devils. Word of warning though, Get rid of Price as soon as possible. We had Schneider drag us farther then we should have gone when we should have been rebuilding. Don't let that happen to you!

Trade Price for Bobrovsky and then tell Bobrovsky to be a patriot and return to Russia? Molson then creates a Russian charity for old Russian NHL goalies and pays Bobrovsky off.
