From Habs perspective, there's only one way to make sense out of it and that's for New Jersey to take a contract off our hands. They have a lot of cap space and we don't.

There's absolutely nothing else of interest NJ can give the Habs that make sense for them and for us.
Bahl + 2022 3rd?

Who doesn't want a good skating 6,6. 220 pound defender who can hit, knock people off pucks and clearn the crease?

You guys seem to enjoy wordplay so you could say "here comes the wrecking Bahl" or "That was a Bahl to the walls play!"

2022 2nd instead if needed but I won't wish you a good day afterwards.

Why would you want to move up? Aren't you content with Slafkovsky falling into your lap in Jersey Land?

My asking price for NJ to flip the 1st and 2nd overall picks is their 37th pick.

It is greedy, but if they refuse I'd pick Slafkovsky. It's a way to defer this impossible decision to them.

You have to mean it though. No bluffing here. I would pick Slafkovsky at 1st overall.

If I'm NJ, I would swallow the pill and pull the trigger on that deal. In the grand scheme of things, for NJ, getting Slafkovsky is just way more important to their team construction than whatever that 37th pick is worth.

It's looks like that it's between Wright and Slafkovsky. Can't wait to see their pick.

With Wright, Habs set their C depth for longtime.
With Slafkovsky, Habs set a very good 1st line for longtime. (Slaf-Suz-Caufield... that's going to be fun to watch, people will say that Habs don't have 2nd line... but they have solid prospects in forward like Farrell, Roy, Kidney, Heineman, Ylonen... the potential is there for them to become good forwards at NHL level).

I'm very happy that Habs have a chance to select Wright or Slafkovsky, they are different type of players, but they have both big potential. They are not Galchenyuk or Kotkaniemi, no doubt about that.

And what if Fitz manages to get #1 and drafts Wright?

I mean why would HuGo even entertain this sort of game? We have 14 freacking picks in this draft.

It's his first draft as a GM, the draft is in Montreal, they'll just pick the guy they think is Wright and that's it.

The Bell center will explode because we picked the Wright guy and everybody will be happy apart McHack.
Well if Montréal views Wright and Slaf the same but thinks the Devils want Slaf...makes sense to play a little high stakes poker.

Et tu, Brute?

In what particular situation would Jersey pay?

The whole idea is that the Habs want Slafkovsky right?

So are you telling me you really want Slafkovsky but if I'm giving you a fourth-rounder in 3 years you suddenly don't want Slafkovsky anymore? Yeah, come on...

Why don't you just draft Slafkovsky if you want Slafkovsky then?

its what id be okay to give in order to make sure we get Slafkovsky even though it might be the habs shaking us down and going to pick Wright anyway.

If Habs needed more then id let montreal draft whoever they want and we take the scraps.

A 3rd round pick is worth nothing for a team with 14 picks including 7 in the first 3 round.
As for Bahl....we already have tons of Left D we don't know where to put them anymore, not that I dislike the player but we just have more than enough prospect there.

Habs are already filled with those type of mid-prospect and picks.

I think HuGo would be fine with either Wright, Cooley or Slaf and know NJ wants Slaf.

Makes sense asking them if they want to switch pick. Nothing to lose.

100% truth. All this noise is because it’s Montreal picking first. Leafs fans are PRAYING we don’t take Wright. The Leafs can’t even handle Suzuki in the playoffs, their fake dynasty is toast the minute we draft Wright. Bob Mackenzie and his “scouts” are Leafs fans, that says it all. Every casino in the world has Wright as a heavy favourite.
Would be crazy if Habs and NJ would swap their top picks and then NJ would trade 1 OA to the Leafs for Nylander +.....And Leafs would draft Wright. !

Just take the Centre. I really want it to be Wright, but if it's Cooley, so be it. At least he's a C and he brings something different and dynamic.

"You don't trade for top C's, you have to draft them" okay do it then.

What would NJ offer to get this pick?
I had a post on that recently but in summary, it would be around a 3rd round pick.

If the Habs add a 3rd round they might get NJ 2nd round.

(MTL also has the 2nd round pick from EDM at #62 that can be used).

The most recent first overall trade is in 2003.

The Panthers trade the no. 1 pick and a third-rounder to the Penguins for the no. 3 pick, a second-rounder, and Mikael Samuelsson.

It all depends on how much NJ wants it, obviously, but for a team that wants to compete… I don’t think they would see much of an issue with such a switch. If they don’t want to take the risk of losing Slaf.

I dont see HuGo trading away the 1st overall in their first draft and its in Montreal!!!

but for fun lets go......

1+ 66 for 2+37

then

26 + 33+37 for a top 10 pick.
