Eh, The Downside isn't to bad. NJ gets Wright and has a 5+ window to win the cup by imitating the 2009 championship pengiuns build of Crosby/Malkin/Staal with Hughes/Hischier/Wright.

Not saying the Devils trio is equal to Crosby and Malkin. I think the Devils team would have more depth then the 2009 penguins

the 5 year window is like staal I'm guessing Hishier or Wright would want to go somewhere else to be big dog instead of the 3rd line Center
They also have Zacha and Mercer that play center. Hughes/Wright/Hischier/Zacha/Mercer

Zacha can play wing but he is a C.

Slaf is no brainer for NJ.

Zacha is probably gone before the season start and Mercer can play C but I think is better as a winger. Wright I think would probably be the opposite but who knows. Maybe Mercer and Wright switch positions every other period.:D

Assuming NJ would want Slaf and Mtl is fine with Wrigth. They dont need to believe we want Slaf. They only needs to believe he might be our choice as in:

NJ: whos your pick?
Mtl: We got 2 guys heads to heads, pretty close. So close that i'm fine with either.
....
Blah blah blah trading talks
....
Mtl: makes your offer to secured your choice. You Will be telling me what it is and you're not trading it afterward.

No other improbable scenario is required. From there, either Mtl takes the deal (we are ok with letting go the guy NJ wants ) or not (we want the same guy).

Those deals can only happen when there is a debate for 1st overall which is why it rarely happen. But those negociations most certainly happen more often than we know.

You seriously think the would not prefer Slaf?

Look at their wings..

Why would Zacha be gone? He is RFA

Who you got?
Wright

That's been my feeling since the lottery.

Doubt I'll come off that by Thursday.

But I'll be honest, haven't watched anything beyond highlights of any of the prospects, so I don't necessarily have a rooting preference.

They do but as I have stated in previous posts its how much the Devils GM is willing to give up without coming off as being clowned by GM Hughes.
A switch from 66 to 37 is fine and well within the type of switches you see in the history of 1st overall switch for another top pick.

I'm fine with a switch between the 37th and the 66th.

The goal is to get more assets near late-1st early-2nd to work out a deal for Lekkerimaki.

Habs fans are generally well informed (though there are a lot of them so that means by law of averages that means there are a lot of stupid ones)

Would the Habs fans in the building during the draft get that they are getting a good deal or would they view it as not enough and taking away from the prestige of drafting 1OA in Montreal?

It will be Wright!

The kid has been captain all over he stepped in and they try to make me believe he's lazy and lackadaisical?

Get out of here!

NJ will pick Slafkovsky, then we'll get Wright at 2nd overall, which is what everyone was expecting anyway.

Prestige is kind of irrelevant at this point. Everyone who's fan enough to buy a ticket for the draft show is aware that this draft has no megasuperstar.

Even better if we can get our hands on Lekkerimaki, who would give us potentially two solid duos of young players (Suzuki-Caufield, Wright-Lekkerimaki). If people aren't thrilled about that, they are idiots.

It logically makes sense but we all know how the heart works and how pride can get in the way of things.

I may be wrong but I could imagine some fans being angry about not picking 1OA in Montreal.🤷‍♂️

Maybe some, hard to say. Newspapers would explain it to them the next morning that NJ wanted Slaf anyway.

Yeah I think there's a lot of over analyzing with Wright...personally, the only concern I really have with him, is how much growth there is left in his his game.

He was physically mature at a young age, is he going to bring his game up another level or two when he doesn't have that physical advantage?

I think it's a legitimate question mark, but by all accounts, he's got high hockey sense so he should be able to adjust.

It would be very bold to go in another direction.

This entire rumor is weird. If Wright is the one HuGo really wants to pick, is it really worth it to trade down and deny Wright of his dream of being #1, just in order to swap a 2nd rounder ? he would be right to be unhappy about it and it wouldn't help confidence and trust

If the Devils are desperate enough to do it, which I don't see why they would be, hell yeah it's worth it

he is an undrafted and unsigned player....they owe him nothing. Also if that extra 2nd helps them move up from 26th significantly then yes it might b worth it...
