Draft Wright just makes too much sense. Center is the most important position in hockey. The potential of having a Suzuki / Wright number 1 / 2 for the next decade is too hard to pass up. Both players are good defensively.

When you look at the Habs center depth it is not exactly the best right now currently.

Suzuki / Dvorak / Evans / Poehling

Now if you draft Wright you can ease him into the lineup. Dvorak has this season and two more on contract. He could provide nice insulation for Wright. Wright can ease more into the NHL this year. Then start taking over more #2 responsibilities next year and by year three he will have had time to get better.

Suzuki / Dvorak / Wright / Evans

Now that looks a lot better for next year.

I know it's not uncommon for coaches and other people in hockey ops to talk to players & prospects, but I simply feel good knowing Vinny and MSL have spoken to Wright (and I imagine they did with other players, too). But this is one reason you have a Lecavalier and a St. Louis, they know what it takes.

You maximize their value to the organization.

But this is one reason you have a Lecavalier and a St. Louis, they know what it takes.

They're clearly involved with the top pick because they are all very close to the NHL (1 year development for all of them maximum) and we will know whoever they take at 1 that everyone had been consulted and involved in determining that choice. Hughes, Gorton, Bobrov, Lapointe, Boucher, Nicholas, MSL and Lecavalier.

This isn't Bergevin and Timmins making the choice by themselves. Every view point will be discussed, challenged, debated, with all the data presented from Boucher and then they'll make the decision.

It might not be the one we like. It might not get us the best player from the class. But we can at least respect the work and the decision and hope we get someone of impact.

I believe it’s dishonest because Slafkovsky has done nothing that merits taking over the #1 spot. He’s not even top 3, Wright, Nemec/Cooley, people sleeping on Nemec are the same who slept on Makar. Nemec is the next big thing on defence just watch him go.

I think Bettman and Toronto fan’s motives have been made very clear towards us.

Toronto fans would love nothing more than for us to mess up and leave Wright on the board. They already can’t handle Suzuki in the playoffs, last thing they want is Suzuki/Wright shutting them down for the next 10 years.

Wright/Suzuki would be great to see for the next 7-10 years........habs need to be better down the middle, and this is our chance to start something special.
