Benning is killing it.. I assumed he would have to take some salary back.

So basically Nucks rented him for free last year lol.. cost them a 3rd but now got back a 3rd.

Perfect
yeah its like it didnt happen. sucks it didnt work out because it seemed like a good cheap pick up. at least they lost nothing

I wonder what went wrong with Schmidt in Vancouver… I’m sure some news will come out soon.

Overall I’m not very happy with this trade. I would have liked to keep him if this was the return. I guess I’ll wait to see what we do with the cap space though.

People keep pencilling him in as a top 4 defensemen but is he?
Certainly didn’t look very good to me this past season. The guy has been traded two years in a row for a 3rd round pick.
Sounds like he is worth about a 3rd round pick.
Can’t be that good.

In Vegas he was a top pairing 0.5 PPG defenseman that ate up 21 minutes a night. One bad season on a team that was a tire fire doesn't negate his previous 3 seasons in Vegas. I don't know if he is truly a top pairing defenseman, but Winnipeg should be comfortable throwing him out there 18-20 minutes a night.

It's no secret he didn't fit in here. Didn't get real PP time, didn't have a defined role on the back end, our defensive coaching is a nightmare, COVID, Benning is Benning, etc...

Didn’t watch the nucks much last year, whats the story behind his lack of production?

Welcome to cap flexibility. Canucks have two options now

Sign Petey/Hughes to 8 year contracts + Hamonic/Schenn on RD

or

Sign Petey/Hughes to a bridge contract + Hamilton/Schenn

Truth is that he just didn't fit being a LHD on the right side. He would have zero PP as well and his motivation was low. He wasn't the same player he was in Vegas but that can change easily if he's in the right environment

Yes but in two different offseasons he has only been worth a 3rd round pick.
Including the offseason after his Vegas stint.

I'm really glad Chevy got aggressive this off season. That defence had to be rebuilt and easing Stanley in, and getting Schmidt and Dillon seem like great moves. Time will eventually tell of course.

Other positives - Nathan Beaulieu shouldn't see the ice this year. Forbort and Poolman possibly gone too.

What I kept hearing after the OEL trade was completed was that the 2022 draft was supposed to be much stronger. So this could be an upgrade in pick quality. Hope it’s true that he’s waiving and that we’re not retaining. Sad. He said he didn’t get a chance to know thE team and spent much of his time alone last year. Obviously not good considering his personality but that would have happened wherever he played in 2020. I think that he would have loved Vancouver if he
And given it a chance in a normal year with a chance to interact more with players and fans. Think he’ll regret going to Winnipeg but at least his buddy is there.
He’s a bit of a spaz, which made him fun to watch on and off the ice. WHOOOP!!!

Some great moves by Jets to improve their D.

Morrissey, Pionk, DeMelo, Dillon, Stanley, Schmidt is a solid 6.

I guess Heinola is playing AHL?

That team has gotten better for sure. I expect them to make the playoffs in what will be a really tough Central Division again.
