I know they came as a package but I look at it like Garland for 9OA and then the rest.

So I suppose it's OEL, 3rd for Schmidt, Eriksson, Beagle, Roussel, 2nd, 7th.
Which still looks pretty great. I mean, OEL is signed for 1.3 million more, for 2 extra years. But his pedigree is higher, and he actually wants to be here.

And we get rid of 12 million in dead cap.

Some great moves by Jets to improve their D.

Morrissey, Pionk, DeMelo, Dillon, Stanley, Schmidt is a solid 6.

I guess Heinola is playing AHL?

That team has gotten better for sure. I expect them to make the playoffs in what will be a really tough Central Division again.

The scary part is if Helle can win a Vezina Trophy 2 season ago with the tire fire Jets D were then how good can he be with a good D corps in front of him?

Jets are definitely going for Lord Stanley!

I’d say it’s a win win situation. It’s clear Nate Schmidt isn’t gonna work out in VAN and the contract is gonna get worse. He can fit nicely in Winnipeg, and Canucks can use that extra money to look for some dmen that can actually play defense.

I was told this would take a high pick or prospect. What happened?

Who said this?

Schmidt was never getting a high pick or prospect. I don't think I saw one proposal involving Schmidt and a high pick/prospect. He's was never worth a first or top prospect.

I think most Canuck fans would have been happy with a 2nd and a small cap dump coming back. A 3rd and no player/retention is basically the same thing.

Overall I like it more as a sum of the parts as long as we can utilize that cap space wisely to balance out that defense.

The funny thing is, Schmidt killed the deal yesterday of the two 2nd round picks to the Canucks, so we went and got Dillon with those two picks. And then we paid a 3rd for Schmidt the very next day. Chevy, you're a wizard.

Yeah. Loser move by Schmidt tbh

I just want Schmidt to continue to be traded for a 3rd annually until his contract ends.

So, 3 more teams he needs to be traded to in summers 2022, 2023 & finally 2024. Then traded at the deadline in 2025, where he finally manages to get a team a 2nd because of retention.

Definitely.
To be honest, the usual suspects (read 90% of hfCanucks) hate everything our GM does, but our outlook has changed abruptly.

If we bring in Schenn, then we are one good RD and a decent 4th line center away from being a really good team. But good RDs are really hard to find.

This also opens up the potential (and I would lean this way) of signing Petey and Hughes to long-term deals.

Chevy having himself a nice week. Defense is looking respectable again and with Hellebuyck you shouldn't really need much more than that.

I'm not sure if Schmidt regains his Vegas form but should be a lot better than he was in Vancouver. That team was a colossal shit show last season.

Yep, its almost like they had the worst team outbreak for covid in sports history

Fully expecting your defence to get eaten alive.

Ye. No one else experienced Covid.
Looks like a win win deal for both teams.

if by “win win” you mean a “winnepeg win” than yes

a 3rd for the caliber of dman Schmidt is, is a steal.

funny how the same ppl going off about how good the acquisition was for the Canucks are also saying it was a good trade here when it kinda can’t be both

We aren't entering the season with the defence we have now.

LD is probably set with Hughes, OEL, Rathbone.

Myers will be one of our RD.

That leaves two spots (seems likely Hamonic or Schenn occupy one of those spots).
