As a nucks fan happy he's gone. Dude is worth nowhere near that contract.
Maybe no one else wanted him without retention.
Not sure what to think from the Canucks perspective. In the end I guess it's a push of draft picks and the cap space is handy, but Schmidt is worth more than a 3rd.
Vancouver basically chose OEL 6x7.2m over Schmidt 4x5.9m and downgraded from a 2nd to a 3rd to do it.

The Canucks had the final say in the trade…. they didn’t have to trade him……they didn’t want to retain any money….But why would he care about retention? that just means 2 teams pay him
The funny thing is, Schmidt killed the deal yesterday of the two 2nd round picks to the Canucks, so we went and got Dillon with those two picks. And then we paid a 3rd for Schmidt the very next day. Chevy, you're a wizard.
really happy for you guys fr.I cannot tell you how happy I am right now.
We may get crapped on for being a small cold city but the players that have played here (outside of Kane) have said nothing but good things.

This fellas is why when a girl rejects you that you keep on trying

Yes but in two different offseasons he has only been worth a 3rd round pick.
Including the offseason after his Vegas stint.
Was rather certain this is the case. I never understood what the hell could possibly be so bad about living there.
