Wow. Wasn’t expecting this either and it’s going to be sad to likely miss the playoffs this season.

But in all honesty it’s probably for the best. The Blues didn’t want another Backes situation and now they add Foley and a 1st in this draft to a pool that already includes Thomas, Kyrou, Thompson and Kostin.

We currently look loaded for the future. I still want to see a couple other guys moved out now.

If we really are gonna go after Tavares... exciting times ahead.

I wonder if after the season is over if NYI knows they can't re-sign JT they would accept rights to Foley for the opportunity for us to talk to JT. That would be a great move imo. We can either save face and work back towards working on a deal with Stas or we can go full send on bringing JT in. Not sure if this is needed though as I don't understand how the rights to a UFA and talking to them works before the UFA signing period.

Basically there's something called "interview period" that starts around a week before July 1st that teams are able to talk to Tavares, but without mentioning any specifics about the contract. Before that it's possible to aquire the rights to exclusive negotiations from NYI, but the price is blurry - maybe a draft pick or two.

They could’ve still actively pursued Tavares in the off-season even if they hadn’t traded Stastny today. I also hope Armstrong isn’t basing the long term vision of the team on signing JT, or if he is, he better have a plan B, C, and D ready to go.

So in the playoffs I guess I should be rooting for the Jets (Stasny), the Golden Knights (Peron and Reaves) and Boston (Backes)

Right, that's sort of what I was thinking it was. I wonder if the rights to Foley + a 3rd or so would get it done. I don't generally know the price of these things. Just kind of spitballing. This type of a situation would really cover our ass though unless Stas is not a part of the future regardless and DA thinks it's time to hand the reigns to someone else even if JT isn't available.

Stewart in the Flames
Yak and Johnson on the Avs
Bishop on the Starts
Osh in Washington
Elliot and Jori on Philly
Polak on Leafs

Good chance another ex Blues wins a cup with another team this year lol How painful would it be to see Lehtara win a cup, it would be the longest time for him to skate the cup on his lap since he is so slow

Blues could go from zero picks in the 1st round this year to two in the blink of an eye. This should be an interesting 6-months between now and next training camp. Can't wait to see who the Blues run out there as C-depth next year.

Blues, as the roster currently stands, probably have THE WORST center depth in the entire league right now outside of Montreal.

All I care about is the Preds getting smoked. Everybody else I'm okay with.

I'm not sure about a price, we're talking about Snow here and he's... I don't wanna say stupid, so let's just settle for unpredictable. Also I'm NYI fan and I really like Tavares, so in any speculations I may be setting the price too high.

It's really refreshing though to see people that actually want Tavares, because his own fanbase doesn't. One look at any thread and you'll hear how he's too old, too slow, not captain-y enough and all that jazz  He's basically draging the Isles down! Are you sure you're interested in this guy?!

One way to look at the Foley part of this trade is that we just replaced Glenn Gawdin’s spot on the depth chart from the 2015 draft. Still a hope that Musil can rebound next year and do what he did in Chicago last season during the playoffs. Foley plays hard, I like the pick up a lot

Well I mean that's what happens when you get fresh blood in like Barzal who is an absolute rocket on the ice I guess. And yes even so more this last hour than before.

Well, it's not fair to throw this **** team on Barzal.

But I wish you all the best. I have a soft spot for St.Louis, so if Tavares won't re-sign with NYI, I hope it's you guys.

Yeah, who would have thought the Flyers would end up the better team at the end of this year? Seemed like they were heading towards a year or two re-tool by trading Schenn and taking Lehtera's contract. Then again, they have a solid offensive core and making the playoffs in the East is a lot easier than the West. Maybe Lehtera is just REALLY good in the room, he just brings the whole team together.

The BALLS Armstrong had to ask for that 4th Round pick.

As if this fleecing wasn't bad enough already.
Huh? It's a pretty fair trade, even Winnipeg fans are saying as much. The 4th is conditional and is only there because Foley is a junior in college and there's an outside chance he may not sign after this season.

Stastny is still a very good player and the Blues retained 50%. This trade is probably less value than Hanzal got last season, just for the record.
