What were the Jets thinking eith paying so much for this pkayer? They’re having a great year. This trade makes n sense for them, especially at this cost.
While I hoped the 1st was conditional, the Jets had to make a move. They cant score without Scheifele in the lineup. The PP is dreadful. They are a terrible faceoff team. Monahan should help on all 3 areas.

:crossfing:crossfing

Considering how close WPG is so close to the top of the division (winning it would drastically improve cup odds), and the fact that they took the cheapest guy off the maket making it harder and more expensive for Colorado to get a C... You think that they be happier about the trade.
I fully expect a lot people to make a full 180 once they see Monahan play.

This thread is just a clear giveaway as to who watches hockey and who does not.

Of course a 1.9 million dollar a year Monahan is worth a 1st, wtf.
Imo the Jets will “take off” with Monahan. Cup? Maybe? But the playoffs will be way better now.

First rounders are the main currency at the deadline so this seems like their big move. That's where the trade looks a bit off.

Monahan is a decent player though
Monahan is the kind of playoff acquisition that pays off. The superstars don't. Tarasenko and Kane didn't. Lots of other examples of star players not finding their fit in time when they are rentals.

Guys with experience that play more of a support role can really do well. I look forward to watching them in the playoffs.

Im not salty at all. I like the trade and its probably close to being fair value for Monahan. We spent the last 3 drafts replenishing our prospect pipeline and with our current form its time to make a move again.

You fanbase seems to be in a bubble of that doing nothing but acquiring draft picks is the best thing ever mode.

I don't think Montreal has been the same since Price left and I don't think they will get out of no man's land for a long long time. If I am wrong I will eat crow but I think Dach is damaged goods with his injury history and I don't care for there amateur scouting. Time will tell.
Couldn't agree more. Hughes is going to have to go through hoops to trade all of these sub-par players the Habs have been drafting because we can't properly pick players. Quantity doesn't equal quality.

I still think they will eventually get out of it ok, though, it just becomes more complicated.

I don't think it will take as long as you expect, though. There's tons of cap coming off the books and probably enough assets to get most of what they need.

Hopefully before the Habs end up in no man's land they do something about their amateur scouting.

I think Monahan will be great for Winnipeg, as long as he stays healthy. I'll be rooting for you guys to lose in the first round so we get a better pick, but if you win a few rounds then I hope he can win a cup there (although I'm conflicted as I don't want to see Scheifele win one, haha).

Monahan is a good player and I thought a 30ish pick would be something the market would typically bear.

The risk isn't about what he will bring if healthy. The risk is if he can stay healthy. He's had so many procedures, and up until this season, he has not been healthy at all for a very long time

But if he's healthy, I think he will win the critical jets fans over pretty quick. I had a certain negative perception of Monahan as well when he came to montreal, but I quickly realized I was wrong.

Monahan is still very good, you'll see.

My prediction is he's going to redeem himself in the playoffs and sign a 4 year deal with a team.

If not, I'll gladly take him back on a 1 year deal next year.

And finally YES, we were right, just lime with Chiarot.

GG and good luck to the Jets except Scheifele aka Meth Flanders

Feels a little high but not surprising the cost was paid. The center market after Lindy is thin and the Jets couldn’t chance waiting longer to get the right price. If they think Monahan is the right guy it’s worth it.

it was expensive, this deadline is silly.
But at the end of the day are the Jets better or worse after the trade? and IMO center depth is NEVER a bad thing.

It would be a good exercise to go though the history of guys picked around the 30 range.

I think it's maybe 50/50 at best (being generous) that someone makes the league, and even less chance that you will get a solid top 6 or top 4 guy. Frankly, I think late first picks are a bit overhyped around these parts.

I think with so many teams in the league now, you have to put these draft picks further into context rather than just saying "first round pick". When you say Monahan for first rounder versus Monahan for the 30ish pick, I think it sounds alot different.

The jets identified that they have caught lightning in a bottle this year, and it's totally justified to give up a seed that probably won't pan out to anything special to get more help today.

I think jets fans will be pleased as long as he stays healthy.

Imagine a rebuilding team acquiring draft picks, young players and playing other young players. Just imagine that, the craziness of it all !

I was commenting on your critique of his defensive play, man. 😅

And lose the username, dude. 👍
Excuse me? You think I can't read or something? I know what you were doing, sugar coating shit.

Just out of curiosity.. Why shall I lose my username?

Because he isn't a bust? Because you don't like it? Please enlighten me..

Funny how everyone was laughing over the the thought of the Habs getting a 1st for Monahan. Now that we got it people are trying to put in a new twist.
Just admit it you were all WRONG and move on..
I’m not admitting to something that I didn’t say. “We” lol…. Are you on the team, Monsieur.

I made a list of guys in 27-30 range over several years. Out of about 30 of them a few were actual good players. Odd no one replied when i posted the list but they keep saying it's an overpay.

Good luck on the next Nikita Scherbak

The Habs actually have a competent GM now. Also I get the feeling that this pick(and others) will be dealt for a young forward like in the Dach deal anyways....

Really coming around on this move, excited to see him in action on Tuesday. I think the Jets bottom 6 is going to win them a lot of games now. Deepest they've been since 2018 when Brian Little played 4C

Nino - Lowry - Appleton
Barron - Names - Iafallo

The value can be debated forever but the truth is that he is good player and will help The Jets. His cap hit is also low enough that it might leave them room for more deal(s) if necessary.
