Confirmed Trade: [WPG/MTL] Sean Monahan for 2024 1st round pick and conditional 2027 3rd round pick (Mod warning OP)

The Canucks trade forced everyone else to push and overbid others for Monahan, because they were the top two centres available. The timing of the trade is the proof of that.

Biggest loser this trade deadline is going to be the TV talking heads having less to talk about.

Montreal wins this trade.

Monahan is a useful forward for the Jets, but the 1st rounder is their big trade chip. Its a lot of risk.

For what it's worth, Monahan was healthy through most of his career, minus a couple of seasons. He's looked strong this entire season; no reason he can't keep it up for the remainder and through the playoffs.

He's not Lindholm, but he's a very good leader, which is especially valuable in the playoffs. He might surprise you.

I’m hoping he does surprise us and hope he stays healthy. Now want to see what else Chevy adds to help the team bc the West is a bloodbath of good teams.

If everything pans out just right, the Jets 2024 1st may be a later pick than the Habs 2024 2nd... :sarcasm:

Anyway, Monahan's at least still got some offensive touch, can win faceoffs, and his cap hit is small - meaning the Jets will have room to bring in another player or two before the deadline.

Win win. I don’t think the value is way off and it’ll be interesting to see how mtl fumbles these coveted and celebrated picks

Its a win win trade Monahan put up 35 points on a bad Montreal team it should help the Jets besides the Jets add to the roster without trading players Montreal gets a late first.

Main boards completely wrong about a player's trade value? Say it isn't so.

The probability that Monahan does more for Winnipeg than whatever player selected with that 1st does in the NHL is high.
The probability Money dislocates his hips after stepping off the plane into the Winnipeg tundra high. ;)

Winnipeg fans were claiming Names is better as a 2C than Money. Now a change if heart! lol

Jets are a high IQ team and Moneyhands should fit in nicely. I feel Perfetti and Ehlers would make perfect linemates. Perfetti thinks the game at a high level and Ehlers can carry the puck and gain zone entries. Namestnikov was solid in that role but he lacks finish. Monahan will finally give that line a shooting option in the middle of the ice, closer to what the Jets already have in Scheifele.
