Jets jump in early, over pay, and screw the prices up for any other gm looking to make a reasonable deal closer to the deadline...

Watch him get hurt again I'm like two weeks and be out long term
Be happy, it'll increase your return for Crosby :)

Meh. Selling is fairly easy, and Bergevin made some astute moves to exploit the salary cap as well (think of getting Armia for free). The issue with Bergevin was having a coherent direction and a management group, rather than a 1-man show. (Bergevin had other faults - trying to win deals too much rather than building a winning team and organisation, and giving big money to his favorites but losing other players by being cheap)
Of course it is important what you do with the assets you get. Bergevin didn't have much clue. More faith in this new group.

Oh, so do I. They seem competent and professionnal in their approach. But I find new management selling off when they aren't trying to ice a competitive team is the easiest part, so we shouldn't be overly impressed.

The fact Monahan recovered enough to be worth renting off is just dumb luck for us, really.

Also, HFBoards continues to overvalue late 1st round picks more than almost anything else in hockey.
Posted the exact same thing not too long ago. Like they can't differentiate between an early first and a late first when it's a world of difference.

Exactly drafts picks are pretty much worthless, Vegas doesnt give a damn about them and they got their cup

They're definitely not even close to being worthless. And Vegas use of picks as trade assets is a big part of why they got a cup.

But people on here treat them as though they're a way to get top line winger/top-6 centers top-2/3 D at a decent age and ideally with term and that's just not the case.

I can easily imagine Monahan barely putting up 10 points the rest of the season, and he really doesn't THAT much more to the table beyond scoring ability. It's not like this is a shut down guy, or one that is especially adept defensively. I could see him scoring some clutch goals in the playoffs perhaps, or just flub out and contribute not much at all, and might even be a liability.

1st round pick value?

The Jets 1st will be in 28-32 range... pretty much as good as a 2nd rounder.

Nice add for Jets. He's got a high IQ and will help the struggling PP
32nd used to be the rules of thumb as being the same as a 2nd.
I guess now it's 28th. reeaaacccchhhhh

I'm glad you can predict a player that's already put up 35 will only put up 10 he rest of the season. Thank you for your contribution.

What a crock. Do you watch the games? Monahan has been solid defensively, including killing penalties. I don't care what he was in CGY, it's 100% irrelevant. This questioning Monahans defensive play TODAY is totally in contrast with reality.

As I said, I watched virtually every game Monahan played as a Montreal Canadien.

If you think he was a "solid" defensive forward for Montreal there's really not much of a discussion to have. We are not even remotely on the same page on what constitutes being good defensively.

Let's just agree to disagree.
