From a Jets perspective, he plays the type of game Bowness likes (defence first, wins puck battles, etc.). In my opinion he was the perfect fit for Winnipeg's system.

You think Sean Monahan plays defence first? He doesn't play defensively at all. What are you talking about?

His a one-way forward with outstanding face off abilities.

The knocks on Monahan are health, lack of defence and lack of physical play. You read the wrong scouting report if you think Sean's gonna come to Winnipeg with a 200 foot game.

Both teams lose.

Jets overpaid and Montreal can’t draft worth crap and it’s not a great draft year anyway

Good trade for Wpg. The pick is worth more to Mtl than Wpg, so good deal for both teams actually. Wpg doesn't need much, maybe a C who can actually win a faceoff and play some d. Monahon is exactly that.

Don't like the cost but If Monahan plays well and helps to take the Jets deep in the POs it will be well worth it. If Jets win the cup it is a steal.

Lol no.

I am waiting to see how he slots in between Ehlers and Perfetti, and possibly if we can bring him back for another run at the cup for next season on that line, to evaluate if he was worth a 1st. In general dont like rentals, but now we get him a month early. Decent center depth and not having to dig in to our prospect pool was what I wanted.

Well when you look at it that way you do have a point. These past few years, with the exception of Cole Caufield five years ago, Montreal's drafting has been far from stellar.

Yeah not sure why people are saying he's good defensively. Bizarre. Must be that good ol Canadian boy thing, like Bo Horvat.

But seriously, good at faceoffs != good defensively

With that reasoning, so is the 31st, the 30th, the 29th, the 28th, et all...

And if they get that 32nd, they will get a 3rd rounder in 2027...
If Winnipeg makes it to the Conference Final, from then on I'll be cheering for them (since if the pick is 29 and lower, might as well get that 3d rounder).

Nothing wrong with giving guys a few days to pack up and move, meet teammates, get a practice in, etc.

I think some trade deadline deals have flopped just because there just wasn't time for players to adapt.
Agreed. That’s specifically why Rutherford likes to do trades weeks before the deadline

MTL should just use the central scouting lists ;) Actually most teams would be better off.
You aren’t wrong

These GMs know their dads or love the interviews and next thing they are trading 16 (Barzal or Connor) and 37 (Carlo?) for Griffin Reinhart

Just pick off a the mock draft consensus round 1 & 2 then go all funky
