I just feel like Winnipeg should have spent their assets on a different player but who knows
Easy to sell, harder to buy. Remember how easy it would be to get PLD last summer, or when Colorado used less then half of what Montreal paid to upgrade from Newhook to Colton. A certain GM in Buffalo we should not talk about horded first rounds picks but did failed to build and buy a team.Wow, Montreal‘s management team keeps hitting it out of the park! Pretty soon the other teams are gonna stop taking the Habs calls, lol.
cheers
In fairness a lot of Habs fan said the low amount of centers and a desperate gm would overpay, not that Monahan was worth a first.I believe Habs fans are ecstatic about this trade because most of them, deep down if they are being honest with themselves, didn't believe Monahan was worth a 1st as a rental. Hughes done good. Bought low and sold high.
Yup Monahan played some very decent hockey for the Habs this year and if he can stay healthy and with better linemates should continue to contribute and put up points with the Jets. He had 11 points in his last 7 games for a very anemic Habs offense. As long as he stays healthy believe Jets fans will warm to this guy. He's not what he once was but he is still a smart offensive player who goes to the net and wins draws. Strength down centre is valuable in the playoffs.
we still have assets and cap spaceI just feel like Winnipeg should have spent their assets on a different player but who knows
Yeah reading in the thread more has given me a bit more insight into the Jets. What are the jets immediate needs?we still have assets and cap space
I figure many teams had inquired about Monahan, Winnipeg decided that with Vancouver stepping up they needed to do the same, and it wouldn't take Hughes long to call around and confirm no one else was willing to pull the trigger on a 1st rounder in return, and he wasn't willing to risk not getting a 1st out of this, so it got done ASAP.Feeling habs started with high demand and expecting a lower pick counter offer from jets but jets GM too excited to acquire monahan already
well our biggest need would be a legit #2 rhd but those aren't ever available, maybe another forward that can replace appleton/iaffalo in the bottom 6Yeah reading in the thread more has given me a bit more insight into the Jets. What are the jets immediate needs?
Not saying it was a bad trade for Montreal, Getting a first for Monaghan is still solid especially considering they were given a first to take him. More so saying that anyone saying the jets overpaid is being ridiculous.Condition on the 3rd is Jets winning the Cup, guess it's most likely just a 1st
What about the chances Monahan helps Montreal make playoffs this year vs having an extra 1st in the offseason to trade and no Monahan b/c he left as an UFA.
Feels like a good deal for both sides. Of course, HFBoards will fiercely disagree lol
That said, where my Henrique for a 1st haters at? Ducks can definitely get a 1st + for Henrique
I initially thought he was worth a 1st.I believe Habs fans are ecstatic about this trade because most of them, deep down if they are being honest with themselves, didn't believe Monahan was worth a 1st as a rental. Hughes done good. Bought low and sold high.

Look at the other thread on Monahan and you will see the Habs fan base truly believed we will get a 1st for Monahan. We have such a belief because we have seen him play. Other fanbase undervalue Monahan because they didn't see him play. They relied on useless stats to support their opinion.I believe Habs fans are ecstatic about this trade because most of them, deep down if they are being honest with themselves, didn't believe Monahan was worth a 1st as a rental. Calgary happens to have one of those.well our biggest need would be a legit #2 rhd but those aren't ever available
What does that even mean? The guy hasn’t missed a game this year and he is healthy.Yeah and with Monahans injuries, it’s truly is going to be the difference between a win or loss. Mark my words.
Which oneI just feel like Winnipeg should have spent their assets on a different player but who knows
The only thing that will make this home run even better is if Monahan signs at the end of the season for 4x4.
Despite the renown HF experts who never fail to be wrong, Monahan is a solid 2C on most teams and for us, an absolute necessity until we have more young center depth.
2 Lias Andersson picks. It won't help them at allWhat a turnaround for the Habs. They pretty much get 2 firsts for nothing.
Good point - GMs can often look good when selling, since that's simple enough: call around and take the best offer. And it doesn't even matter if it isn't a great fit in your organisation, since everything is in flux anyways. Leaves you with only 2 NHL centers? Meh, no worries.Easy to sell, harder to buy.
