Feels like a good deal for both sides. Of course, HFBoards will fiercely disagree lol

That said, where my Henrique for a 1st haters at? Ducks can definitely get a 1st + for Henrique

IMO the Jets aren't going to the finals with just adding Monahan, this trade is pointless unless Chevy adds significantly more with our available/significant cap space. Monahan helps sure, but he's far from the big missing piece a close contender needs to get them over the hump. This better be only trade #1 and 2-3 trades.
I think your evaluations in general are WAY off. Adding a player like Monahan increases your chances significantly. It bumps down a lesser center into a more suitable role. Effectively, with this move, you've improved your 2nd line AND your 3rd line (and at center which is significant on it's own), and greatly improved your faceoff stats, which any educated hockey fan knows can be a massive difference maker in the playoffs. On TOP of all that, you've added a great teammate with solid leadership abilities. But hey, carry on with your take...since you've been right so much, it seems. :sarcasm::nod::laugh:

While I am not a huge fan of this deal. Giving up the 32nd overall pick is ok when the jets needed a another center badly
I like Winnipeg, I really do, and if it weren't for this trade, I would say, go get that cup.

But now....I hope you drop in the standings and suffer a first round exit.

Top 20 and a shot at Tij Iginla would be so nice.

It was great asset management by Hughes but Habs fans overreacting to anything positive just makes me laugh. Lets see if that bottom 10 1st ever plays meaningful NHL minutes. I'd bet not. Just glad Drury didnt overpay for a glorified 3rd liner.
You just contradicted yourself at the end of your message, take a break 🤣

I'm glad with the return we got, but let's be serious here : the chances of that first pick to contribute anything close to what Monahan has been doing this year are pretty slim. However, management wise the guy has been hurt a lot in the past and it's probably better in the mid to long run to invest your time and money in someone else.

Didnt know you were the thread police, my bad. Continue victory lapping what will most likely be an inconsequential trade. Cheers bud
No problem bud.

Not the thread police, I just don’t understand coming in somewhere to shit on an entire fan base for zero reason other than being an asshole.

Feel free to keep at it though, you’re only embarrassing yourself.

Jeezus that 16 game winning streak by Edmonton is scaring two Western teams now in overpaying for mid talent

39 goals, 74 pts last year.

CaPdUmP

He just didn't fit with Tocchet but go off
So every other player See's their play improve but one? Isn't it more likely he overachieved while shooting 27% and as soon as teams adjusted and took his space away, he struggled?
I'm a fan of Kuzmenko but he wasn't the same guy and was a diminishing asset that likely continues to diminish.

To me it feels more like this is the Winnipeg cost of doing business. This is a guy who looked like he was going to retire 5 minutes ago. You hope for a better price tag?

He's had a nice little bounceback this year but hey, somebody's gotta score the points in Montreal. I guess the fact he regularly saw 20+ mins TOI in Montreal is encouraging for his injury woes. But will he get the same amount of playtime with the Jets?

Again I totally get why Winnipeg does the trade - it's a message to the squad to keep pushing. But man did Hughes make out like a bandit here, value wise.

Monahan has been reasonably healthy for a change and that's going to make things look different - when he left Calgary, he really did appear to be almost at the end of the line. I don't think this is particular to just the Jets being gouged or anything, this is a shortage of available centers on expiring deals setting up a market that has a steeper price tag on certain players. There were a bunch of teams looking at a mid-line center for their playoff push - Vancouver got the top one and that shortened the supply for teams like Winnipeg or Colorado.

Taking away that he was cooked at the end in Calgary and it doesn't seem like that much. And yes, the TOI issue is valid - what is he going to draw into for ice time with the Jets. Also, do they shuffle up what's been working on some lines to fit him in up the lineup? I'm curious to see.

1st + is a ridiculous price. Least the Canadian clubs in a playoff position are going for it I guess.

Hughes is soo good at bending people over. I hope Edmonton never trades with Montreal. We’d end up paying a 1st for Allen.

I wasn't sure if he'd get a 1st, but man some of the guys in the Monahan thread were acting like it was completely impossible and acting like Habs fans were being delusional for asking for the 1st.

They will definitely post with more humility in the future I'm sure...

I like to think the front offices were up all night wheeling and dealing on the throw in pick.

"I'll be god damned if I'm giving you a 3rd round pick in 2026"

"What about in 2027?"

"You've got a deal you French Canadian bastard"

EDIT: I am being told I am a moron. Please ignore.

Win Win!

Jet's get a good C to help with their already awesome team. They also did it early so that he can adjust to the team and build chemistry. Real smart.

Habs get an overpay and got a great haul!

Bonus win

HF Habs posters can tell us all to eat shit.lol

A late first this year probably equals a second in last years draft. It’s a magic bean, Monahans playing at a 60pt pace. Yeah he looks awkward out there but the only risk is he’s injury prone

'Tis the run up to trade deadline. We see teams pay a premium on certain positions every year and wonder why. And in a lot of cases, those teams don't really fall off if they aren't dealing their young players or prospects. This didn't touch any of their prospects and Monahan has been healthy. It's the cost of doing business.
For all the posters saying Chevy panicked maybe consider that the Lindholm trade actually established the market value for centers this year. As for Kuzmenko being a cap dump based on his talent and points last year it seems more likely that he and Tocchet just don't work. Based on the conditions on the 2027 3rd it's unlikely that will even happen. Jets may not be done yet either considering the cap room they will have at the trade deadline.

Monahan has been great since he’s been a Hab, wouldn’t call this robbery at all.

His stats would be better were he not playing with plugs on the 2nd line most of the time. He’s been one of our best players since he was acquired.

Still a great piece of managing by Hughes, first getting a 1st to take on Monahan and then to get a 1st back for him.

I get it...be the bigger man. If you were on the rumour thread you would have seen how petulant prissies a couple of them were...and I wasnt even saying he would get a 1st. Maybe this bring them closer to reality but I doubt it
Dude, it's ok, he had an opinion, the GM of his team had a different one, he's owning up to being wrong, let's move on.

And to the surprised of nobody who know hockey and follow the NHL Montréal got a 1st round pick. Still baffled by people who thought a healthy Monahan would return a 2nd round pick max. I would assume people posting here would be fan of hockey and follow the NHL.

I watched virtually every single game Sean Monahan played as a Montreal Canadien and I absolutely would not have surrendered a 1st round pick to acquire him.
