considering they got Monahan AND a first for future considerations, i'd say yes lol
Context my friend. I was replying to a poster who claimed Chevy gave up a shitload. Not to what Montreal received for Monahan in total between two separate transactions. This thread is not about what Montreal received over two trades, its specifically about the Jets/Mtl trade.

Habs got a hell of a haul.

I guess they tie him to Ehlers to help out his 5 on 5 and hope Bones can work the same magic on Monahans defensive game as he did with Scheifele.

It was great asset management by Hughes but Habs fans overreacting to anything positive just makes me laugh. Lets see if that bottom 10 1st ever plays meaningful NHL minutes. I'd bet not. Just glad Drury didnt overpay for a glorified 3rd liner.
You seem like you’d be a fun guy to have around at parties.

Fans of the team are happy that they obtained a first rounder and you simply come here to shit on them with “whatabout-isms”?

Seems like a thread you really don’t need to be involved in, no?

Which is why I wouldn't be surprised to see him re-sign in Winnipeg, frankly.

Assuming he does ok/healthy rest of this year, Chevy better resign him at that cost for at least one more year, which would then make the price easier to accept. I'm ok with 1 year deals for him, but not multi year deals he's too much of a risk.

Terrible trade in my opinion.

Smells like desperation which isn’t usual for Chevy

Montreals second is close to the jets first which is ok I guess.

Still an overpayment

I guess Montreal in a way helped winnipeg get a haul free m la. So we owed them this.
We don't have our own second round pick this year.

If a secondary piece like Monahan gets you a 1st and a conditional 3rd in this market, what does that make top 4 dmen like Chris Tanev and Noah Hanifin worth?
Crazy.. just crazy.

IMO the Jets aren't going to the finals with just adding Monahan, this trade is pointless unless Chevy adds significantly more with our available/significant cap space. Monahan helps sure, but he's far from the big missing piece a close contender needs to get them over the hump. This better be only trade #1 and 2-3 trades.
The playoffs can be a strange beast, Winnipeg has a lot of nice pieces, if they stay healthy and get a few bounces (say, including some other team taking out whoever is their kryptonite) there's no reason they wouldn't go deep.

For sure, but its probably the best asset we could have hoped for Monahan, in terms of helping the team long term.

Maybe that pick becomes nothing, but it has the possibility of becoming more. Or even just be bundled up later down the road in another trade
Yes I agree. Good return. My point is this has no effect on the jets going forward.

Were you saying that when people, including many fans of your team, were saying there was no way Monahan was fetching a 1st round pick ?
Yes. I wanted Monahan. And I just don't see the 30th pick as a "first". Anything outside the top 15 is usually a crapshoot

I'd expect 3x5M is pretty much going to be the baseline for him. Even a 5 he'd be a bargain, and it's only his injury history keeping both AAV and length shorter than you'd expect for a player with his pedigree and experience.

i know it is, but given that his value was so horrible a short time ago they got a big haul for him

Didnt know you were the thread police, my bad. Continue victory lapping what will most likely be an inconsequential trade. Cheers bud

I was definitely wrong. I didn't believe an NHL GM could be this dumb now that Jimbo is gone.
If Monahan remained healthy, the Jets GM got a very good value in this trade. The key here is for Monahan to remain healthy. So far so good. I don't think Monahan missed any game this season.

Monahan is a useful player. A 1st was always going to be robbery Monahan will help the Jets.

I don't get why Jets fans hate it so much. It's a late 1st for a center that can play really well in your the middle 6. You didn't give your top prospect or anything like that, it's a late 1st to help your team win while you're at the top.

Enjoy him. He's been great here.

It was yesterday according to Avs, Jets and Flames fans. Where have you been?
Almost as if what you read on a hockey forum from a handful of sports fans who are only speculating and giving their opinions has no actual relevance in the real world or something. Odd concept I know.

Those were 2 separate deals, though.... the first one to take on a big contract of an oft-injured player, and 18 months later, the second to rent out a player after he's proven he's healthy.

i understand that lol...

its still an absolutely massive win for the Montreal franchise to get TWO first round picks for Sean Monahan of all players. That is really impressive

I understand all the context but regardless of how you spin it, its still crazy
